  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Delay Behind the Monkeypox Vaccine Shortage

Since the beginning of this year’s outbreak, Bavarian Nordic has sent 300,000 doses of Jynneos to the U.S. with two-thirds allocated to states and cities. Those doses had been produced by contractors in Denmark in facilities that were already inspected by the FDA, which is required before a medicine can be distributed in the U.S. But, in 2020, Bavarian Nordic moved its vaccine production in-house and began building a new facility 20 miles north of Copenhagen, where it started manufacturing and stockpiling the 1.1 million doses of Jynneos currently owned by the U.S. Before those doses could ship, however, Bavarian Nordic’s new facility needed to undergo an FDA inspection.

As monkeypox cases have ticked up nationwide, the White House and federal agencies have repeatedly assured the public that millions of vaccine doses will be distributed to at-risk populations before the end of the year. Yet since the World Health Organization announced the global monkeypox outbreak in May, only tens of thousands of shots have been administered in the U.S. The slow start is due, at least in part, to the fact that 1.1 million doses have been stored in a Denmark pharmaceutical facility while the Food and Drug Administration has taken almost two months to approve their release here, according to people familiar with the situation. FDA officials only began to inspect the facility last week. The lag time, public-health experts say, is indicative of the federal government’s lackadaisical approach to a growing public-health emergency.

“My impression is that there is very little coordination and leadership across the U.S. government about what’s going on here,” says a former senior U.S. official who has been in touch with the White House over the past few weeks about the monkeypox response. “It feels to me like there’s nobody in charge of this. Who is driving this forward?”

Compounding their frustrations was the FDA’s refusal to accept an inspection done last year by its counterpart, the European Medicines Agency, which deemed the company’s facility in compliance with the FDA’s own standards.

NYC Monkeypox: New vaccination sites, clinic opening

With cases on the rise in New York City, the Health Department has been scrambling to get vaccines out to anyone who wants one, but supplies have been low and appointments are quickly getting snapped up.

14,500 doses have been shipped in from the federal government, coming as commercial labs ramp up clinical testing.

Three new mass vaccination sites are opening this weekend at Aviation High School in Queens, the Bushwick Education Campus in Brooklyn, and the Bronx High School of Science.

A new clinic is also opening at NYC Health & Hospitals/Gotham Health, Vanderbilt, on Staten Island.

California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D) said in a statement Thursday that the city of San Francisco is veering toward a public health crisis due to the uncontrolled spread of the monkeypox virus.

The city’s Department of Public Health (DPH) tweeted Wednesday that its walk-in clinic will close for the remainder of the week due to the vaccine shortage. Other city clinics are working through remaining appointments and joining the DPH in “urgently asking for more doses.”

Monkeypox: Dr. Anthony Fauci says outbreak needs to be taken more seriously as virus continues to spread - CNN

Former US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb warned it may be too late to control and contain the virus.

"I think the window for getting control of this and containing it probably has closed. If it hasn't closed, it's certainly starting to close," Gottlieb told CBS' Margaret Brennan Sunday on "Face the Nation."

"We're probably detecting just a fraction of the actual cases because we had, for a long time, a very narrow case definition on who got tested and by and large, we're looking in the community of men who have sex with men and at STD clinics. So, we're looking there, we're finding cases there, but it's a fact that there's cases outside that community right now. We're not picking them up because we are not looking there."

Per the CDC numbers cases are going up quickly.

However, there are some oddities.Massachusetts went down from 65 to 51, and Georgia went from 96 to 93. The data is not listed as active cases, so these must be over counts that were revised.

As predicted, the US is moving up, passing Germany and the UK in total cases, though not per million. The larger population, and the failure to get a handle on spread, should put the US in the lead shortly.

If it is not just lack of testing the UK may be starting to slow things down.
