We have problems, but they're nothing compared to the immorality and viciousness of
the Roman Empire. We don't even have capital punishment in most states, yet the Roman's
had gladiator fights to the death and crucifixion and other means of torture were often used.

Lets not forget that the Roman's invaded many countries and cultures
and treated them harshly.
I just don't see much difference from a Christian standpoint. What Paul said about the Roman government in Romans 13 can easily apply to our government, and what the Bible says about the "World" easily applies to our country. In fact, I think our country as seen by many Americans as a "Christian nation" and our love of prosperity weakens our Christianity. I think the situation in America is like Jesus says of the church at Laodicea, "For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

We have immorality in our society, no doubt, but it's nothing compared to what it was
like in the Roman Empire.

Yes, there is a decline in belief in God. Many people have no meaning in life and younger
people don't have any incline to follow a religion. Even the religions of the East are rejected
today where young people once started following them.

The scandals in Christianity have not helped at all. There is justification for young people
rejecting religion. Religion that doesn't bring Christ to a person and help transform them, is
useless religion. The pandemic isn't helping us solve this problem. However, for those of us
who already believe, it is a time for deeper growth in Christ.

But again, we are nowhere near what it was like in the Roman Empire. You need
to learn about what it was actually like.

Well, neither of us were there and that is the only real way to understand what it was like living in Ancient Rome. I don't think life would be much different for a Christian in Rome than in the US today since we know that the World is under the domain of Satan. If anything our comfort and prosperity, and our friendship with the World, has made us fat and lazy and easy pickings for the devil (as your view of young people is an example) whereas in Rome you saw the devil's dominion over the World much easier. It's actually easier to fight the devil out in the open than when he's hidden, IMO.

I guess the real issue here is what is the effect of prosperity and comfort on the life of a Christian? Is it all good as most Christians think? Cotton Mather, an early Puritan leader, once said, "Christianity begot prosperity and the daughter ate the mother". Food for thought.

Other than that I agree with all you said.

Christians were put to death by the Roman Emperor Nero. That does not happen today in the
USA. Things were far different for Christians than than now.

It doesn't take living at that time to understand how hard it was and how immoral the Roman Emperors were.

Heck, your trying to say, just because we didn't live in Nazi Germany, we can't know what it was like.

I'm done with your trolling.

There's video of Nazi Germany. There are people that went through it and wrote extensively about it in our day from a myriad of perspectives. Not so with Ancient Rome. You know that, that the further you go back in history the less we really know about a place, person, or event. And yeah, there was a brief time before Constantine that Christians were being persecuted and killed, but there are places in the world now where Christians are being persecuted and killed, and although they are not in our church or our country we still grieve with them, right? And not every Christian was being persecuted, and they had their churches and Christian brothers, and where there is persecution God is even stronger.

I don't see much difference between America and ancient Rome from a Christian perspective. The leaders of Rome and the US have a lust for power and can be vengeful. It is just a different time that our politicians can't kill any of their enemies, although they do often try to vengefully harm them in different ways. And it wasn't long ago that we had slavery just like the Roman Empire where you could legally rape and kill your slave with no consequence.

I refuse to worship our nation, which is built into our nature and which people love to do! There is nothing in the Bible where Jesus or the Apostles tell us to love our nation!

Again, my point is that we're like the church at Laodicea where Jesus said, "For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked."
