• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I realised today that I had been holding myself as not really being an addict because I couldnt get done for pocession (I was hooked on sedatives)

I've been in recovery for like 4 years, but I think I was still being a snob when looking at drug addicts, hell the only difference between me and the methamphetimine addict, was that I could get mine legally from th doctor

Addiction cuts across all ethnic and social boundries. We don't have to let using addicts into our homes, but we should share the message of recovery with them at every opportunity.........One of the slogans of AA and NA is "we can only keep what we have by giving it away."...............Do you go to meetings?......jerry

It was kind of a slap in the face, but also good, because I've been trying to loose weight for ages, right about the time I got clean, was the time I started gaining weight, and I've realised again I subsititued one addiction for another.....

I am tempted to try NA, does anyone know what they are like?

hey. kudos on 4 yrs!! NA is pretty much like AA except its more tailored to drug addiction. go to their web site
http://portaltools.na.org/portaltools/MeetingLoc/ and do a search for there you live. also the phone book. like AA, there will be different meetings and some meetings you will fit in better than other meetings.

I wish you the best of luck in your walk and recovery.

You are in good company. I am a drug addict and alchoholic. The turning point in addiction is when we see it for what it is.That changes the whole charicter of it.Once one admits in their heart, that they are an addict, repentance and then freedom are close at hand.Good for you! It's not so bad being sober, and once you have your feet on the ground you can also help others gain their freedom.

More lightbulbs

I attended my first NA meeting yesterday. I say I have been in recovery for 4 years which I dont think is accurate, I came off sedatives and then inserted junkfood and sex as choice of addiction. and didnt deal with the reasons behind my addiction, or even acknowledge that it was an addiction

So starting now, 1 day clean

God did it for me,
