  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Factual counterfacuals ignored by Easley?

As I said before:

Molinism = unsuccessful unscrewing the inscrutable.

A person visits the hospital to sees a new baby. That person see the baby and states, "Now that is a baby".

So I say, "Now That Is An Opinion"

Monism only gives the illusion of free will. By Hod NOT creating other possible worlds, He has effectively reduced man to only one possible life of choices, and thosevhpices are the ones God wants ad to achieve His desired result. IOW, a man who may have chosen to not believe in one world, chooses to believe in another. Which also means that someone who would have been saved in one senario will not be saved in this world. Monism makes salvation extremely impersonal because it reduces it to a numbers game.

Still sounds gnostic to me....

Well, I don't know what to tell you other than it isn't. You have to have education in order to understand the world and the things in it. It's that simple. Parents teach their children about the world. That is the earliest and probably most important education. The children learn how to communicate and what is acceptable and what is unacceptable in their society. Then as they grow older, they learn more about the world through schooling.

Antecedent / Consequent Wills

"Throughout church history both the Eastern and Western churches have taught that God desires the salvation of all, although He requires the response of faith on the part of the hearer. This antecedent/consequent wills approach sees no conflict between the two wills of God. God antecedently wills all t be saved. But for those who refuse to repent and believe, He consequently wills that they should be condemned. In this way God is understood to be like a just judge who desires all to live but who reluctantly orders the execution of a murderer. The antecedent and consequent desires are different, but they are not in conflict.

The antecedent/consequent wills position seems to be the clear teaching of Scripture. God antecedently "loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son," that consequently "so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." Christ antecedently orders the gospel preached "to every creature," but He consequently decrees that "he that believeth not shall be damned." The antecedent/consequent wills paradigm fits very nicely with the Great Commission."

Shazam:DWOW:cool:COOL, I AM Overwhelmed - Now I know what a real PhD shingle looks like. That is just amazing.

OK Doc. This is just for you.

They wrote the diploma in Latin and even conferred the degree in Latin.

I asked why they did it that way. The answer was, "we have always done it that way and around here that's the answer to many questions."

Free Choice and Contingency

Molina "Divin Foreknowledge" quoted form Why I am Not A Calvinist" Walls and Dongell

"Thus, while the full force of created free choice is preserved and while the contingency of things remains altogether intact is the same way as if there were no foreknowledge in God, God knows future contingents with absolute certainty- not, to be sure, with a certainty that stems from the object, which is in itself contingent and really able to turn out otherwise, but rather with a certainty that flows from the depth and from the infinite and unlimited perfection of the knower, who in Himself knows with certainty an object that in its own right is uncertain and deceptive."

Molinism = An attempt to unscrew the inscrutable
Thanks for documenting this.

Hidden and revealed Wills Paradigm vs. Antecedent/Consequent Wills Paradigm

Some Calvinist hold to the hidden and revealed will paradigm and Molinism the Antecedent/Consequent Will Paradigm.

In simple words The first paradigm is on shaky ground because it appeals to a will that is "hidden" and proceeds to build arguments using the hidden will of God. How can one build anything form something that they know nothing of? The revealed/hidden wills of God is dead at the start simply because it appeals to nebulousness.

If we ask ourselves, "Is there a hidden will of God?" I think we can answer yes but to appeal to it does not add up because what God wants us to know has been written. The problem is using a "hidden" unknown something to argue doctrine is like building a house on the sand, it crumbles due to a faulty foundation. Such an approach to Scripture results in, as I see it, a man centered effort to construct a theology on the hidden will and then attribute what is posited as from God. This seems to be the general practice of this view.

The second sticks to the revealed word of God for its complete understanding whereas the other opens the door for Pandora’s Box because whatever is hidden with God is going to remain hidden until He reveals it. To appeal to "hidden will" to support doctrine is not good hermeneutics.
