Modesty in the home

Just reposting here as it might be relevant too.
Can someone shine a bit of light on why people would argue that wives must be modest at home in front of her husband (in this case, the definition of modesty is in terms of attire and dress code)? Since nakedness is not a sin between spouses, and sexual intimacy is to be embraced, why would modesty be an issue between husband and wife?

When I lived in a trailer park...a neighbor's wife did housework, hung out
the laundry on the clothes line and mowed the grass while dressed in espadrilles
and a string bikini. Her husband definitely thought and said to her many times
it wasn't appropriate...their marriage didn't last.

I never heard anyone say a wife has to be modest in the home. Home is a private space where you can dress as little as you want. Or at least thats what I think. Some couples (from what I am told) walk around their house naked. Probably depends on if you have alot of windows or not lol.

If not for living with my parents I'd probably wear just my boxers. My wife probably wouldn't be a little less modest too. Currently, I just wear a tank top and boxers. Unless company is over of course.

Being outside is different than being in the home itself. Same with hanging out immodest in front of a window with no blinds...especially on first floors near neighbors.

I would leave that up to the husband and wife to determine what is appropriate inside the home as long as it is not unbiblical.

As far as I know, the Bible does not define modesty inside the home between husband and wife. But rather as long as the husband and wife are agreeable to whatever they both decide, then it is ok. It is an adiapharon (morally neutral) subject.

Like other posters, I never heard of standards for modesty between a husband and a wife within the home. That's up to the couple to decide. At home I wear what is comfortable and practical for caring for a toddler. You do whatever works for you.

Zombie thread for sure, but I will weigh in anyway.

There was an attitude of Victorianism that carried over somewhat to Gothardism (maybe even Purity Culture, not sure) that any nudity was shameful/sinful.

A friend of mine's grandmother on her deathbed proclaimed how proud she was of the fact she had NEVER seen the "male member" in any context.

Speaking of just the husband and wife inside, alone, I'd say it's up to the couple to decide, and up to the wife what she is comfortable with.

Always went to bed in pitch blackness.

She never SAW it. Of course she must have felt its presence.

Reminds me of a story I heard of a woman who bathed in total darkness and had absolutely no mirrors in the house. Never saw herself naked. Mind boggling!
