Paul wasn't the one changing their minds. Like I said, we can sow the seed, i.e explain what we believe, but that in and of itself will not convince anyone. They have to be wooed by God to have their minds changed. That's what I'm saying.

So Stryder, let's get this straight. You never repeat the gospel to someone who rejected it the first time?

Evangelists never reason with people, many times if necessary, to help them see Adventist viewpoints?

So many times before it's pointless. I've been on this thread for over a year and haven't changed my stance or explanations. You can only reason with people who want to reason with you. You've already been where we are Tall and you jumped ship. No explanation I can give you will be any different from what you've been told already.

Your'e beliefs are as mine if you really mean what you said in your last paragraph. Revelation is a book full of imagery and symbols that convey the ultimate triumph of Jesus. The harlots and Babylon are not institutions, or certain peoples. They are symbols of those individuals who reject Christ (of which there are many ways to do).

Just noticed this--thanks--I just started Keppra--750 mg--it has helped, I am trying to get the amount raised as I have a very bad habit of my body getting used to a drug and then it doesn't work--methadone was great--for 3 days--I wasn't high or anything, just not in pain--on the 4th day it came back--so why take something that isn't working, and I really did not want to just keep going higher on that. Keppra is not a narcotic, it's for epilepsi--miss-firing in the brain--which is what nueropathy seems to be. But you got to ask for the generic--the Keppra, without insurance, costs around $850.00 a month!!! (Right! Anybody can afford that, right?!)--with insurance it's $6.00!! By mail order, it's free!! Now that is a big, big difference--something fishy out there?!!--I take it at night as that's when the pain is worse and then I can sleep--without it, I have to soak my feet in cold water every hour or 2 for about 2-3 min. Messes up your whole night! I keep asking--Lord, can we just count this as my hell, please??? So, just come on down and take me, I am so ready for the no tears nor pain part!!!

Ok even though I posted it earlier, I guess 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish.

John, this passage from Deuteronomy ch 14 does not say to consume strong drink, it only gives permission to purchase it. This strong drink is translated from shekar, which is condemned in many passages such as Isaiah 5:11 and Proverbs 20:1. The Bible also makes it clear that priests are not allowed to consume this strong drink, so why would it condemn it in one place and allow it in another?

Take a look at Numbers 28:7, "And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering."

I believe that using the title money to purchase the strong wine is allowed for it to be later poured on the ground as an offering, and that this passage does not say it is acceptable to consume the strong drink, only that it is acceptable to purchase it.

the verb 'eat' which followed all this can actually refer to both eating and drinking...

From a non-Christian's perspective, what exactly are protestent churches other than the SDA church exactly protesting against the Catholic church for? Is the reformation of Mr Luther and Mr Calvin still alive in churches other than the SDA church?

Please check out this great series on this subject called Rekindling the Reformation, by Dr Walter Veith: you tube dot com / playlist?list=PLFCF5D76E32825D0A A really great message for all denominations.

If you can show some other Biblical examples where strong drink is encouraged to be eaten, then you have a good point. We still need to consider that strong drink was used to be poured on the ground...

Of course I do not believe that no one has a right to interpret for themselves, so I do respect your viewpoint. I personally choose to disagree because of the numerous examples the Bible gives where strong drink is a poison, ie. it would be contradictory.

even though I doubt that this will convince you...

Leviticus 10:9 actually forbade priests to drink wine and stong drink WHEN they were to enter the tabernacle...

to me it means the following: If God had forbidden the use of wine and strong drink in general, calling it sin and stuff then He wouldnt have needed to remind the priests (who should have been aware of any statutes) about it. Since they rather get a warning to be sober when entering the tabernacle it means to me that could have a drink when they had a day off or so... or after their work was concluded...

You have many good points on how humans are weak. Brings to mind Romans 3:23.

Funny you should bring up Romans 3. We read it in church this morning and it was the object of the sermon. Here are the verses preceding the verse you mentioned.

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. 21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile

To the reference in 1 Cor. 9, Paul in defending the personal rights of Barnabas and himself asked: "Have we no right to eat and to drink?"

He said: "It is right not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that makes your brother stumble." Romans 14:21 He did not indicate that no one could properly eat meat or drink wine forevermore. After he informed the brother, he was no longer the weak brother, though he might be a stubborn brother. Paul would not permit the brethren to be hobbled forever by the binding of every man's convictions on all.

Abstinence was needful only when someone's faith would be jeopardized. In 1 Cor. 10:31, Paul said "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." I don't know of anyone who thinks Paul was alluding to drinking water. According to Paul, we are to eat or drink to the glory of God.

Drunkenness us another matter.
