• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I guess most people would call me moderate. I voted for Obama, I believe in evolution, I'm a member of the NAACP, I'm in support of comprehensive immigration reform, and I believe in climate change. However, I also believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, I personally believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that God doesn't recognize any other type of marriage, I am pro-life, I am a registered Republican and aside from voting for Obama last year, I have always voted Republican. I believe that Jesus is the only way to God and without holiness no one will see the Lord. I am Pentecostal so I believe that women can serve as pastors but I don't consider myself to be a feminist and I believe that it's wrong to use feminine pronouns in reference to God though He does have male and female characteristics since we are created in His image. I believe that love should define us as Christians because Jesus said they would know us by our love. My favorite historical person aside from Jesus is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and I would say that my preaching style is within the Black/Pentecostal tradition.

Would you call me a moderate?

Id call you an "individual" lol!!!!! Like many of us on "bridge builders", you have views that put you on different sides of the spectrum, for different issues. Its hard to know if we are "moderates" or just simply "unusual" in our beliefs!

But it sure sounds like you belong here. We dont agree on everything but the most important thing about this forum is respect and kindness in how we look at the different points of view. Im actually new on this "moderate" forum (Ive been on others on) but I really like the tone and respect everyone has for each other.

Welcome! BtW, I love Martin Luther King as well -

Probably not.

However, the term (moderate) as used on this Bridge Builders forum means only that the posters behave temperately. There is no particular demand for a certain political or theological slant, just a willingness to discuss calmly and without the viciousness that characterizes some other forums.

So, would you say that I am liberal or conservative?

Liberal and Conservative, unless otherwise indicated, are generally used to describe political stances. Not so much one's tastes in fashion, religious beliefs, or etc. And you yourself began your description of yourself by running down a list of political views.

They were pretty consistently Liberal. The only 'chink in that armor' would be that you say you usually vote Republican. That seems odd at a glance, but considering that there are many Liberal Republicans and also that candidates for local office are not easily defined by the terms Liberal or Conservative, I could see how that might be done.

Yeah. The straw that broke the Camel's back for me was Mitt Romney's policy of self-deportation. There were other issues but that was the primary one. The only conservative stance that I am very passionate about is life. A lot of the other issues don't matter as much to me.

For this forum being a bridge-builder type, it covers most.
Everyone chooses what they think they are.
However as Albion says, it is how you act, a gentleman gets along with others, even when they differ. That way we learn why a person wants to help build a bridge.
Is it to convince someone of something, or just understand why a person thinks the way they do.
