• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I posted this elsewhere but wanted some feedback. I just went through a mixed episode. Very confusing...feeling depressed tired exhausted and at the same time can't be still have to move...and anxious. I knew about mixed episodes but didn't put it together until it was almost over. Overall it wasn't too bad...just weird. Anyone else been through this. Have any advice...did anyone else find it weird but bearable compared to the alternative episodes. Just looking for some chatter on the topic.

I call it tired and wired. When I used to be on anti-depressants alone, looking back I think it was one big mixed episode, just not so horrible as they can be. Within the last year I feel I've had some that were a lot worse and they're terrible. Depressed and hypomanic, dark thoughts, anxious, racing thoughts that can't be kept up with leading to breaking down. The worst state to be in.

I don't want to tell you what to do but I would keep an eye on it and try for a med adjustment. Make a plan for if this happens and it gets real bad. I feel like a non-alarmist type person but this can really get serious.

That my dear, would be the boo-radily state of mind that I usually stay in. :p It's an all day every day battle that even I can't predict and what's really scary is that my meds are working. I know that it's really hard riding the roller coaster when it seems that the ride will never end. I just keep taking things one day at a time and I know eventually it will at least slow down a little.
Praying for ya hon!

Dear Berry2000

This is when suicide becomes an option. We get tired, real tired and just want relief.

When your in deep depression your to depressed to do anything. But when we mix the manic with it you never know what you might do.

See you doctor and have him explain it to you. Also you need to work on some different meds or dosage because THEY ARE NOT DOING THE JOB!!!

Also NEVER be ashamed to call someone and let them know what is going on. Go to a mental care unit. If you have to call the police or sheriffs dept. and tell them your going to kill yourself. This way you will be picked up and put in a mental holding area until you get the help you need.

IN TIMES LIKE THIS IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

Hold on wonderwaleye. I never said I was going to kill myself and I'm not in any danger. I understand why you would go there...but it is important to assess what people are telling you before you recommend they call 911 and have themselves committed. I am okay. My meds are working...they may not be right and I may need some adjustments but my mindset is somewhat stable. Plus I said the episode was over. Be careful you don't encourage someone to do something that need not be done. I know and understand where you heart is at and I know mixed episodes CAN be dangerous...but I just want you to know...some others may not be able to temper what you say so please be careful in your recommendations.

Dear Berry2000

I believe better safe then sorry. You must remember that many folks read these posts. Many will not post themselves.

That is why CF is so important. Glad to here you out and doing better. I thought you needed to know this is a very dangerous state.

I'm sure no one would proceed unless the time is right. We bipolars tend to stick it out to long rather than seeking help we don't need.

I am having more mixed episodes than I ever had before lately. I did have a pure manic and then pure depression episode a few weeks ago. I must say it was more refreshing than the mixed episodes. I hate them. They are so confusing.

I'm laughing one minute and then crying the next with high anxiety, like I'm going out of my mind. I am terrified I am going insane in this state. Like lemonflavor says, "Tired and wired." Any anti-depressant will launch me immediately into a mixed psychotic episode.

I have to say that Abilify stopped the mixed episode better than any med I've ever tried. Good stuff.

Thanks Berry for putting a name on this...why I never added 2 & 2 together (besides that I'm not good with math)...is beyond me  So maybe that's the reason for my last three days at work where staying still was just not an option and then crying like there's no tomorrow....

 s & :prayer: s,
Wendy

PS Funny how I seem to 'pop in' here just when I need to hear something :)

Cool wendy, I'm glad it makes sense to you.

Also here is my thought on the calling the police and telling them you are going to kill yourself. And I've experienced this in my life so I'm talking from expereince.

It is always better to show up at the ER and tell them what is going on and ask to be admitted than to be committed. It is no fun to be stuck in a mental hospital and not have the the ability or choice to leave. That being said one must do whatever they need to do to survive. I have done both...the walk in and the 911 last year....and lived to tell the tale.

Just my two cents for whomeve might read this.

I can relate, matter of fact you put into words my exact feelings, the only med I'm taking is ativan wich seems to help a bit, I also just started taking fish oil (chemical free) and although it's probably to early to tell, I do seem better with less mixed episodes since starting the fish oil, I will reprt back to this forum after a month or so and let you all know how much if at all the fish oil has effected my moods.

I just wanted to add that my mixed episodes also cycle rapidly, wich makes it difficult sometimes to even hold a conversation, but like I posted -the ativan helps to calm my mind, and the fish oil so far seems to be helping.

note: just for your info- ativan is habbitt forming.

I have a whole cocktail of meds. But I use Xanax for the anxiety. I am curious how the fish oil works. I am notorious for trying non medicine alternative w/o consulting a doc so I don't want to do anything but wondering how it will work for you.

From what I have read it's the omega-3 fatty acids that have shown in some studies to have mood stabilizing effects, For more information I would suggest you do a google search.

By the way what other meds do you take?
