Hello, I would like to ask if any of you have any contact that I can reach in the country like Uzbekistan, Tajiskistan, Turmenkistan, Kryzktan and all the rest of the -tan countries.... I need it because, my church is planning to send some missionaries to the countries in the near future... So a bit like needing some info on the countries..

JOhnPreparer,
I knew someone who went out to Uzbekistan a couple of years ago, full-time. She went with an organisation called People International whose goal is to "Bring Christ's love to the Muslim Peoples of Central Asia".

In the main, the are involved in all the former Soviet states/countries of Central Asia (all the -stans, as you put it). I believe that it's a British based organisation.

Due to the sensitivity of their work, they do not operate a web site, however, I can give you some e-mail addresses by which you can contact them. They should be able to put you in contact with some of their people already out there...

US Office - US@Peoplenintl.org (contact Tom Longley)
UK Office - peopleuk@aol.com (contact Keith Wynne)
Australia Office - Australia@PeopleIntl.org (contact Bill & Beth Nelson or Ruth O'Hanlon)

They also have offices in various European countries.

Their International Director is Clive Pritchard and their US Director is Jim Roths

Hope this helps...

It's stan. There was a guy named stan, who conquered all those countries and added his name to the end of their tribe name to come up with the name for the country or the land that he assigned to them. That is why Afgan's live in Afganstan, and Paki's live in Pakistan.

My sister had an exchange student from Tajikistan a few years ago. It is a rich mission field ripe for harvest!

Matin told us that many churches are reaching the Muslim and atheist people there, by going out into the communities and meeting needs, like help with homework, home maintenance and community activities. He was really freaked out that American churches don't do any of that, they just let the people come to them and give only intangible blessings.

Matin considered coming back to America as a missionary to us!!
