Slavery is and was just a human product, and natural consequence of sinful hearts. Natives had slaves. Who didn't have slaves? Now they have slave labor as well. Fresh perfume and make up can't cover the dunghill stench of sin.

Whether everyone or no on had slaves is irrelevant. The Bible, undoubtedly did support slavery and has specific instructions on how to treat them. Unsurprisingly, Jewish were to be treated the best and not be held in slavery for more than a set amount of time. This (along with many other parts of the Bible) indicates a clear human, ethnic, and cultural bias in the scriptures.

Thanks everyone. It's been really hard for us but we are both still young. I'm also being cut from my biology position due to budget cuts. It has been a hard month.

Sorry to hear you are losing your job as well. I am in a temporary position, but I guess that's not bad in the current economy.

No. The workers of the day were called slaves, many of them. When they got converted, the strategy was to do a good job where they were. That is a good thing.

It dealt with the people and customs and realities of that day. Of course. Make the best of it. Deal with it. Get off the high cloud, man is depraved, and wicked. It is in this setting that the pearls of wisdom were cast. Did Jesus free His people when they were slaves? Yes. Exodus it was called. Did He allow them to suffer forever for their own sins? No.

Slavery is part of the sin deal! You want a new deal? There is only one available. He sets us free. Even if in body, it sometimes might take a while. And that's what it's all about.

read this, and tell me if you have any questions.

8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

God spoke of nations that forsook the right way, and God. In the end time one big nation will get it right between the teeth. That's just how it is. No joke, really.

19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

See, they ban creation and God from being taught, and claim life came from some rock crevice, or vent or some such. Then, when trouble comes, they say God save us. No. Doesn't work that way.

27 Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

Slaves were slaves now?! ROFL

Slavery is part of the sin deal, huh? So is murder but there aren't detailed instructions on how to slaughter a person. So, how come slavery is treated differently than other sins and the Bible seems to be OK with it and tells you how to do it right?

Slavery has always been part of life, even the natives in America and elsewhere took slaves.

Terminating a killer psycho or some such is not murder. Terminating a baby is. Sin has many faces.

So, how come slavery is treated differently than other sins and the Bible seems to be OK with it and tells you how to do it right?
Because it was a fact of life, I suppose. Still is. Always will be till the Liberator comes.

No. The One that came to set the prisoners free hasn't come back to rule yet.
In case you haven't heard, Honest Abe was gunned down at Ford's Theater with a bullet to the head. But not before he did liberate and set free the captives. And I don't think dear old Abe is gonna make it back any time soon. Death is kind of final that way.
