Slaves were like ALL OF US in the US now- simly people who owed a debt. In biblical times, unlike today, there was a etiquite to follow (given by God) for both slave and master. One of the more well known is freedom of debt bondage after seven years.
This is to clear that up for anyone who is confused about the misuse of slavery to defame the word of God.

If I asked a Roman slave if he would rather work for less than it took to eat and support a family at Wal Mart in the future, possibly be nuked, eyes melt in sockets, or whatnot, he might just prefer where he was! Hard to say. Stop blathering about the progress of man, it is a delusion.

The Bible, undoubtedly did support slavery and has specific instructions on how to treat them. Unsurprisingly, Jewish were to be treated the best and not be held in slavery for more than a set amount of time. This (along with many other parts of the Bible) indicates a clear human, ethnic, and cultural bias in the scriptures.

It dealt with the people and customs and realities of that day. Of course. Make the best of it. Deal with it. Get off the high cloud, man is depraved, and wicked.
