Misconceptions about books and libraries

the annoying thing I find with non readers I talk to, when I discuss books is they are usually ignorant of the whole writing process.

For example, many people think just because you have written a book that you will make money from it.
Newsflash the majority of writers do NOT write for the money! If they write books its because they have a story to tell or are passionate about a topic.

Another thing is, people think librarians are just happy sitting in libraries all day looking at books, and dont think that maybe all that time spent sitting in libraries is actually assessing the subject matter of books as well.

Countless people think that a librarian just needs to sit in a library all day babysitting. That its easy. Well no, we are not paid to be internet watchers, or dusters. Some of us have an intellectual life that is much deeper than looking at all the pretty covers.

Anyway. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Im just seriously annoyed esp by people who watch tv all day even while nothing is good on and dont even think to turn it off so they can read a good book.

Just to continue my rant..

Some people think that just because its a book, that libraries will take any old thing. Ie. Donations. I remember one guy trying to donate the book of mormon and jw books to a presbyterian church library.

I just say thanks and then put them in the bin. If you dont even read a book, dont keep it, but dont dump it on other people either. Give some thought about where its going. I dont mind if people give me books theyve read because its good, but I do mind if people give books that are just inappropriate. Of course they wouldnt know because they obviously dont read.
