  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There's a thread already. It's been around even before the Oscars.
Me and probably a couple of more people actually enjoyed the film. The rest basically seem to utterly hate it. And please, how can anyone compare Hilary Swanks' performance with the others. She deserved that Oscar she won.

you're right, how can anyone compare her with the others? annette benning, kate winslette are real talent. swank seems to only be able to play in films where she does a contact sport... they gave the oscar to her because its all political,Eastwoods film talk money..but hey,I dont have to buy that..the Academy is nothing anymore.I think Swank should go into WWF. she belongs there and would be right at home;)

Really? So in 1999, when she won her first Oscar- beating Annette Bennig, who was nominated for "American Beauty"- was that political too? I'm not a fan of hers, I just think she deserved that Oscar. I was pulling for Catalina Sandino Moreno, but she was like Keisha Castle Hughes last year: not a chance.
And what was Kate Winslet doing there anyways? There were much better performances by actresses last year, like Judy Marte in "On the Outs" and "Vera Farmiga in "Down to the Bone", but I bet you probably haven't even heard of those films.

And Eastwood films talk money? Check how much it's made in the Box Office. I do agree the academy is nothing, and they should've given the Best Director to Scorsese.

I still think "Million Dollar Baby" is a work of art. Maybe you don't see it that way because you judge it based on the whole euthanasia thing. It's rare to see films like that this days, using pure, traditional storytelling. Yes, it's formulaic and the way it has to be promoted might make it seem deceptive, but it's art. I haven't enjoyed this pure storytelling in modern films since "The Straight Story".
