Might sound like a stupid question

Someone gave me a Bible as a gift. However, it is a NIV Bible, and I only belive in the KJV. I don't want the Bible, because God said that no man should add to the Bible, and I feel that that is what someone did, thus creating the NIV. But I can't throw out a Bible. What am I supposed to do with it?

I have a NIV student Bible and I have done a bit of resarch on the careful inturrpretation proccess that went into creating this version. And I believe it is pretty accurate. It is not perfect but I don't believe the KJV is either. It just uses a more relevant context of language for today's society. I myself also own a king james version and I don't find it to represent God's word as well as it could so I pretty much never use it. I don't believe anything was taken from or added to the NIV bible. It's just a different translation and it can be good to use other translations as well. I don't think you should have to throw it out. It's not as though its the book of mormon or something :sigh: but of course you are welcome to do as you like.

God bless

In 1965 work on the New International Version of the Bible was begun and it was translated by over 100 scholars using currently available Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts. The goal for this version was to produce an accurate translation that would have clarity and literary quality. It was completed in 1978.

Just because the KJV was the first english translation, it doesnt by NO means mean it is innacurate.

The most accurate bible is in fact the New American Standard Version, however as a result it is not the most readable bible.

If youre going to take your point of view for KJV only, then your principle means that you are STILL in the wrong. You should be reading the Hebrew and Greek bible.

Dont worry about it :) NIV is a nice fluent bible to read, and it doesnt lose a lot of accuracy.

God Bless, metal.

So don't read it.

I don't want the Bible, because God said that no man should add to the Bible, and I feel that that is what someone did, thus creating the NIV.
I find this funny because one of the most (if not the most) prominent attack against the NIV by the KJV only folks is that the NIV has fewer verses than the KJV. (A true statement) How could someone "add to" the Bible with fewer verses.

But I can't throw out a Bible. What am I supposed to do with it?
Why not? If you believe only the KJV is the true the word of God then anything else is simply a book. Even worse it's a fabrication of the word of God. I would think that you would have no problem at all throwing it away.

BTW, regardless this IS just a book. It's paper and ink. The words and the message are what is important.

Thank the person for the gift, and use the NIV for reference. You can then compare the NIV with the "Authorized Version" ( say with reverence )

I'd recommend a book called "The King James Only Contraversy" by James White. And the verse you are talking about says if any person add to the Revelation of Jesus, not the Bible. If it was 'add anything to the Bible' then you wouldn't have any English versions, nor would you have numbers in the verses, nor chapters. So it's a bit of a lack of understanding on the Bible translation process.

If you can't stand NIV version you were given, why not give the bible to someone who needs one? Carry it in your car - you never know when an opportunity may present itself to witness to someone. If they don't have a bible, you could be the one to give it to them. Since the Word is life, don't throw it away. You wouldn't throw away a sandwich in front of a starving person, would you? And just because you don't like the kind of bread it's on?

Just a thought.

God bless you!

I remember the day Jesus came down in the clouds and signed King James's version of the Bible Just after they completed translating it and so "Authorized" it....

Or then again... maybe not!?!?!?!?!

Personally I understand most of these KJV peoples arguments, but the simple fact is most people doesn't do the old english thing that well and not everybody in this world can understand english for that matter!!!!!!!!!!!
I use NKJV.. mainly because I can understand it and it's what they usually read from in my church. My brother has a NIV for the same reason..

We are both born-again spirit-filled Jesus freaks :D
