Midnight Mass and Toddlers

Yeah, but I want her to go. I remember my first Midnight Mass, the music, the bells, the incense, the lights, the tree, etc. I want her to experience all of that!

Sounds like I need to experience it. I'm going to go this year, I promise myself.

anyway, wake her up early on Christmas eve morning and see if you can get her to take a late nap, late that afternoon and wake her and then see if she can stay awake through it. She'll probably fall asleep during it though.

We're going to the noon mass the next day. From the age of three or four on, my parents usually put me to bed at 8 and then woke me up for mass. Really wonderful memories. And I was allowed to open one present after mass, because after mass it was truely christmas.

Getting up early on Christmas Eve is a pretty solid idea too. We have both family's houses to go to in the evening, so getting up early and taking a late night sounds like a pretty solid idea.

Makenna is so excited about Christmas. She loves to talk about Mary and baby Jesus. Anytime she hears the name Mary she says, "Hey that's just like Jesus' mom, huh daddy!"

I remember that as a child, except we would go to the very, very early Mass (it was still dark out). I remember my Grandfather (God rest his soul) in his best clothes--leading the entire family at Mass. Those are memories that can really stick with you--and let you know what's really important--Christ's birth, not just Santa.
