Defending herself from more than $1 billion in liabilities from Dominion Voting Machines, lawyer Sidney Powell argued late last month that that “no reasonable person” would believe that her conspiracy theories were factual. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) cited that concession to argue that the pro-Trump lawyer’s meritless litigation is sanctionable

Well, she's right about that as far as it goes. Maybe no person not exploited by a master manipulator would be fairer.

Seems an odd argument against a libel charge, though. I know it's libel, but who would believe it? Will that fly?

Not really the same thing, Maddox is claiming she expressed an opinion based on disclosed facts -

‘On her show that night, Maddow ran with the story, commenting, "We literally learned today that that outlet the president is promoting shares staff with the Kremlin. . . . In this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump right-wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda. The on-air U.S. politics reporter is paid by the Russian government to produce propaganda for that government."’

Whereas Powel is claiming what she put forward as actual evidence of actual fraud is so absurd no reasonable person would believe it. Powel isn’t claiming her kraken nonsense has any basis in fact, but that it is so obviously pure fantasy it cannot be considered as libel, since, she says, no one could have been expected to take it seriously.
