Is anyone familiar with his music. They played a song of his on Christian radio yesterday, it is one Daniel knows very well, because we used to play the CD when he would go to bed. We haven't played it for nearly a year, so he was pretty excited to hear his song again.

ANyway, he kept asking me for the "God makes Mercy" song, so I had to spend ages trying to find this CD (the reason we haven't played it is because we misplaced it) I ended up finding it 30mins later. He's got it on now, and I can hear him singing along to "God Makes Mercy" It is very sweet.

I'm not so sure about "Healing Rain". I just listened to it for the first time, and really wasn't impressed at all. It's quite generic and dull - a real departure from much of the worship music on his two worship albums. I hate to be the one to say it, but with the exception of a few fantastic songs, Michael W. Smith just hasn't been the same since his secular foray in the 90's.

For those interested in Michael's music, I'd instead recommend "The first decade - 1983-1993", his worship albums, or "Change Your World". They're his strongest albums, lyrically, vocally, doctrinally and in just about any other way you're looking for.

And if you HAVEN'T heard his music yet...

shame on you.

I was a fan in the 80s/90s and have most of his early albums.
Live Set, Big Picture, I 2 Eye, Go West Young Man, Change Your World.

Haven't really got into his newer stuff.

Now that I'm having fond 80s Christian music memories I feel like I should go dig up a Whiteheart Album or something :D

MWS worship and worship again are exquisite... perfect music for congregational worship, although with the sequel I slightly lean that towards personal, individual worship perfect for quiet times too.

I'm not really that big on MWS outside of these more recent albums but I do like
"Signs", "Rocketown", "I'll Lead You Home", "Raging Sea" and "Friends". I also quite like "I Am Sure" -it's really quirky and late 70's-early 80's in sound but I think it's from his debut album and I think it's fun.

Personally my fave is Third Day (all the way, counting down the days to Jan 25) and Delirious - and with the above kind of thinking, it won't surprise most of you that I prefer their more church worship-oriented albums (3D, it's the offerings albums and for Delirious, it's Cutting Edge and Glo for mine). I reckon Glo (delirious) is one of the best worship albums ever produced... it's such a huge blend of upward lyrics and musicianship of the highest calibre. OK enough of Drew's random rant!

Friends is an awesome song!! I only heard it for the first time earlier on this year and think it's just a very moving song that describes what a true friend is.

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can’t believe the hopes he’s granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
’cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus:
And friends are friends forever
If the lord’s the lord of them
And a friend will not say never
’cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love god’s given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you’ll live in
Is the strength that now you show

But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
’cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus
