  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

MTV also began playing Prince at the same time they began playing Jackson... 1999 came out around the same time.

Just saying... I lived those days, so i know.

It wasn't really about race but about what what type of music MTV played. Both MJ and Prince had a more of a pop edge and that's why they were both popular across the board.

no one is saying that...so idk why people here are acting offended when i made my own comment about mj including the accomplishments that mj made for the black community...my comment..you arent apart of that community so i dont really know why many here feel like they have something they "need to say" inregards to that community when they arent apart of it. Sorry but race in our world and society will always matter...its funny how non-minorities always tend to think that thx. God bless

I don't think anyone was/is offended by how you feel about it but it may interest you to know that the news now is all about how great a black man he was... and he was, don't get me wrong but the legacy you are reading about now is not the way it really was. I lived through every album MJ put out and it did not go down like the news is trying to act like it did.

MJ got a lot of heat from the black community then he did from the white because of how he changed his appearance and his music. I remember him going on a big Oprah prime time special to defend himself against accusations that he was trying to become white through surgery and having a more rock edge to his music.

Personally I think it was all publicity, a bunch of you know what... "Bad" did not do as great as the news now is making it to be and "Dangerous" was coming out so all of a sudden a TV movie comes on about his childhood and how he was abused by the dad and then there's this big Oprah interview night time special about how he turn himself even more white and that is when we first heard about this skin disease and I'm telling you the news buzz then was the black community was outraged and claimed MJ had turned his back on the black community, thus we have all those videos about race. "Black or White" and the Oprah interview was directed to the black community for giving him a lot of heat and MJ was saying, it don't matter if your black or white.

After that MJ went down hill because of the child molestation accusations and he packed up and hid out in Japan and then everyone lost interest. That is when the black community came back to supporting him because they claimed MJ was being attacked due to race.

and that's the MJ hype as i recall it.

Idk if you are african american but usually other cultures( particularly white americans) do not realize what one from another culture has done for their own community..for example mj was the first black artist to EVER EVER be played on mtv. That is an accomplishment that eventually opened up the door for other black artists to be played on that channel and to be accepted internationally..and that was just in the 80s!....idk if you are black like i said ...but if you arent thats why i know unless you are aware you wouldnt know to acknowledge his historical accomplishments as black artist in america.....

I don't watch MTV, never have, but that's another topic.:)

Sammy Davis Jr. used to entertain at big clubs in LA and Vegas, but wasn't allowed to have dinner in any of the restaurants after a performance.
I'm not discounting MJ's accomplishments, but there were many before him who were trailblazers for black entertainers, and who faced much greater road blocks to success.

It sounds like you want me to view Michael as a race.
Before I acknowledge his talent, I must first acknowledge his race?

I know a lot of people had a bad life but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge if a particular person did, lol. If I were to keep quiet about one person's bad life simply because someone else also had a bad life, we'd never know about anyone's bad life and that would be a bad thing.
He could have soared as a professional entertainer. He chose to be a professional victim instead. I reiterate, what a huge waste.

It's funny that so many writing today about MJ and MTV are too young to remember the birth of MTV. MTV made cable television what it is today. Before MTV cable was hardly watched. There were select families in town that had it....they were able to watch the Three Stooges and Dark Shadows... But really most families in my town didn't have it and didn't care. Then when I was in high school my friend Jackie, who's father owned the local cable company, brought buttons to school for all of us to wear. "I want my MTV!" I honestly wore it not really sure what it was I was asking for.:sorry: But once I saw MTV, my friends and I were all begging our parents for cable!

The best videos early on were let's see....

ZZTop, David Bowie, Phil Collins and one of my favorites Robert Plant! MJ really did the first 'story' type videos actually....broke new ground for that reason but not really because he was black.

I recall there were black VJ's when it first came on the air so I really don't think the race thing was an issue then.....with hindsight folks that weren't really around then are seeing history in a different light but back then......the talk about Michael Jackson had more to do with how "scary" Thriller was at the time.^_^

I suddenly feel so old...... ^_^

The only time I ever saw an MJ video was maybe while watching an award
show or something. I always liked his music, just never purposely sat down
and watched a video from beginning to end.

So,.......I had a nice treat last weekend.:)
I don't even know what station, probably MTV, but I spent close to four hours
watching all of his video's! Back to back. It was great!

They taked about how a lot of his dance steps were copied from Fred Astaire.
Fred Astaire! But yeah, they did a split screen with Michael on one side and
Fred on the other side, and it WAS amazing!!

I saw on the news tonight, a clip from Michael's last video, done 2 days (?)
before he died.:(

I didn't read through the thread so maybe someone said this already... but if not, rumour has it that he accepted Christ about 3 weeks ago with some gospel singers that he knows and was meeting with. I hope it's true.

The rumor was about a visit he had with Andre Crouch. I heard an interview this morning with Andre and he said they sang together, prayed together but at no time was Michael either invited or requested to say the sinners prayer. He said they all (Andre's wife was with them) had a beautiful time but no Michael did not confess Christ at that time.

Doesn't mean it didn't happen prior to death....but that story is considered false now. Sadly.

I think the 80's were Generation X.
I don't think there was a whole lot of prejudice.
It is Generation X that have taught their children to be color blind. But i could be wrong too.

Was it 'Jam'?
Anyway - i saw a video the other day when i posted - called Jam by Michael and at the end of it - he was teaching some other guy how to moonwalk.

From the link...from Auntie.
Did Michael Jackson turn to Jesus in the end? Crouch was ambiguous on this saying that Jackson prayed with them and did not "reject" Jesus. Absent evidence to the contrary, it will be assumed that Jackson died in the Jehovah's Witness faith. Although, some still hold that Jackson did convert to Islam and will have a Muslim burial.

One thing is for sure, however, each of us have an appointment with death and a planned encounter with God. When we stand before our Maker, I hope we are all clothed in Christ's righteousness.

Your thoughts?

It would seem the Holy Spirit was working on his 'opening his eyes' to Who Jesus is, and I think in the last hour he had already contemplated Jesus.
And may not have rejected him...even if he did so quietly.

But i hope he did. :crossrc: And will keep him in my prayers.

I know. That's probably why I'm so shocked by the pitting of blacks against whites that is so prevalent now.

As far as Michael accepting Christ before death, didn't St. Faustina mention that in the nanoseconds between life and death, Jesus reaches out to the person at the slightest move toward Him? I too pray that MJ's soul rests in peace with Jesus.

I dont think Forealzchola meant it that way.
She is young and and is probably proud of her heritage. SO i wouldnt make anything out of it.

Yea, i believe this is why the Bible says 'the only unforgiveable sin is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.'
Which is to reject Him in our last hours...and the truths He gives to us to accept.

St Faustina was truly gifted by the Lord to 'know so much' to pass on to us.

Let's be realistic...Didn't and won't happen!!

He had the wrong 'gospel' for starters. He was an eccentric individual, spending millions of dollars needlessly on things -- typical of the Rich! (You can't love both God, and money!) Please don't anyone feed me that out of context...please. I've heard it all before.
Above everything else, where was his wife -- relationship bound by God. Another farce as most goes on this earth.
Doing a few good things does not get you a seat at the holy table. As you can see -- a person doesn't need to follow the god-like figures of our day, as it has been in the past as well.

Chance of getting to heaven -- zero!!!

Not many are going. If you think otherwise -- you are truly living in a world of dreams.

I gander you are not Catholic.

Catholics do not judge anyone's salvation...so far as we are taught not to judge others lest we are judged ...and this is the sort of incident that the scriptures mean.

Also - God pays the same days wages to the last hire as He does to the ones who worked the whole day. IF the Holy Spirit prompted him in his last days to believe what he was feeling in his heart - we are no one to stand in judgement.

ANd many souls go to purgatory who never atoned or repented...which is the Mercy of God.
He wishes all to be saved and will to each of us, give one last time to acknowledge Him. That's His choice - just as He told the other hires at the end of the day..
'What is it to you that I pay equal...?'

THis is in God's hands and no one knows at ALL except those in Heaven or in purgatory where the soul of Michael is.

I do understand what you are saying, however, I think it's best if we do not send souls packing to hell or heaven or that matter.

We're not God so we really don't get to pronounce final judgement on folks. We can only judge the actions of a person's life and MJ's were weird as one can get but that does not mean I can send him to hell. I'm not God, i can't say who goes where.

We just can not read a person's heart and know what's in it. I hope... Jesus left us with hope and that is what i rely on, hope, that somehow some way, because Jesus died for all, not just for some, that he did find mercy and was "saved."

When MTV aired the one and only black DJ's name was JJ Jackson, correct? Yea, I think was his name. Videos were just becoming popular in the beginning of the 80's, I remember when i was 13 me and my sister used to stay up late waiting for this one hour long video show called Video Concert Hall to play the Refugee video of Tom Petty. Those were the days... but I really have to argue that MJ wasn't the first on MTV, i really think Prince was but I dunno. You know Purple Rain was pretty huge too.

I think you might be right about Prince. And someone on another forum mentioned both Tina Turner and Diana Ross. I think they are right about Tina anyway...I don't remember Diana Ross on MTV though.

I really believe that Michael did break new ground on MTV but it had nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his talent and genius.

I am not Catholic. I have been praying :prayer::prayer: for Michael’s family and his children daily. I hope greatly that Michael made it to Heaven. I dont think one can say who ends up in Heaven(excluding children that die before the age of accountability) and who doesn’t that is really only something that one will know when they themselves gets to Heaven.
