  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think you might be right about Prince. And someone on another forum mentioned both Tina Turner and Diana Ross. I think they are right about Tina anyway...I don't remember Diana Ross on MTV though.

I really believe that Michael did break new ground on MTV but it had nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his talent and genius.

Well, he created pop but so did Madonna and Prince and a bunch of others. It was just the era, we were coming off of Disco and getting into this pop stuff. But MJ did cross barriers with Thriller which is why it sold so much, because everyone, if you were into New Age or Rock, you fell for Thriller anyway. We all fell for it. I didn't care for Billy Jean to much and Beat It was cool because of Eddie Van Hallen, so it was PYT that won me over. Thriller was a success because MJ appealed to every kind of music taste out there form little old ladies to heavy rockers. That's not something he or anyone else was ever able to do again.
