I wish you could tell that to the people who were absolutely sure he was calling for an established church, everyone being forced to belong to it, a theocracy to replace our democracy, and all that kind of speculation which was based on essentially nothing.
That would mean, then, Flynn was just dog whistling for a certain portion of evangelical Christians.

Of course it was a gaffe the Constitution of the U.S. was never set up for a one religion over a nation. But if you asked this man 5 minutes after his making this statement does he believe all other religions should be outlawed and not even be allowed I'm guessing he would have said of course not.

Then you really must ask yourself why he made the comment the way he did, when he did and to the people he made it to.

This article has a somewhat longer version of the clip:
Just a Church Full of People Chanting 'Let's Go, Brandon' - RELEVANT

The whole passage doesn't make a ton of sense, so it sounds less like he's advocating for a theocracy and more like he's just throwing out a kind-of-incoherent salad of buzzwords to stoke the crowd.

Also noteworthy from that same event (held at John Hagee's church) is the whole crowd chanting shorthand for a profanity.

Seeing as how the church chants and reveres hatred, it's obvious what religion he was thinking of.

The context only makes his remarks more alarming in my opinion (and apparently the church leadership is fine with participants at a political rally chanting expletives?). But I'm not surprised. Flynn is simply articulating a twisted version of Christian nationalism that has corrupted the church...and threatens our American values.

That has worked smashingly well for Iran and Afghanistan!

Well that what happens when they worship a god that demands violence to enter paradise.

And Jesus said that the only way to the Father is through Him. Does that mean Jesus was trying to turn Rome into a theocracy, or was trying to ban other religions?
No, it doesn't "mean" that at all. In fact, the two situations are, essentially, devoid of any relationship whatsoever. The problems start with comparing a loving, benevolent, kind, all powerful and mighty God with a politician.

You think Jesus has ANY interest in theocracy? Cause no he doesn't. He wants US, individuals, people, not our governments. Those are human created institutions that have a role

Given that we've had two presidents in a row who often stumble over their words and frequently state their ideas in clumsy or ambiguous ways, there's no reason to pursue this guy as though he's special in that department.

No way! This sort of language has to be called out on every ocassion. We cannot treat these sort of comments as 'clumsy or ambiguous'. This is not going to be accepted as par for the course. Flyn is not as dumb as some of those who spout nonsense. He wasn't just shooting from the hip. He knew exactly what he was saying and he knew exactly the response he would get from the people he was saying it to. He was rabble rousing.

And we need all reasonable people on the right to call it out as unacceptable as well. Anyone who accepts it or tries to excuse it is complicit.

Right, and one role is to run a society that is Godly. Isn't why Paul said government bears the sword in Romans 13:4?

Really? Does he? Are you 100% sure you have represented the entirety of Islam correctly?

I'm not the one putting on a suicide vest, or blowing up schools and then yelling about how great Allah is.

...do you think someone has ever done anything truly horrible in the name of God (Yahweh, the God of our faith)?

Nah, I bet you make special pleading cases for the witch burnings in Europe and the American colonies. I bet you make all sorts of special pleading cases for the Crusades (even the Albigensian Crusade which gave us the great phrase "Kill them all, surely God will know his own"...aka "Kill 'em all. Let God Sort 'em out."

I bet you make all manner of special pleading for the bible verse that says: "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass."

So DEFINITELY tell us all about the horrors of Islam.

Glad to see Flynn has such a strong handle on the first amendment.

No wonder he held such a prominent position in government.

</sarcasm>

He wants one religion. Hmmm... Going out on a limb and guessing that it's not Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, or Taoism that he's thinking of.

This is just more of the deflection permeating your posts.

For the record, Christianity has never had clean hands when it comes to killing - including killing its own. And we're not just talking about distant history.

The combination of a belief in ethnic or nationalistic superiority, combined with the self-righteous religious ideology bleeding through Flynn's comments, makes for fanatics who will happily kill for the cause.

I'm not here defending modern day Islam. Far from it. But remember: Christianity has its fair share of folks who want women seen but not heard, subservient to the man. And Christianity has in its past had some pretty horrible things done in its name.

One of the great things about Christianity are these two verses:

Matt 7:5. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

And

Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

So instead of you spending all your time looking for the mote in Islam's eye while ignoring that Christianity's eye has from time to time held a beam, perhaps you could act in a way you would like to be treated and just let them have their faith. I'm sure they don't necessarily value your "critique" of their faith anymore than you would value their critique of YOURS.

Let me know when you want to circle round to the point of this thread and not some strange pointless exegenesis.

I will take your whole discussion to mean that you 100% agree with Flynn in this instance though, just to keep it simple.

Those who "kill for the cause" aren't doing it for the cause he was speaking of.

I don't mind if they have their faith as long as it doesn't involve hijacking airliners and killing nearly 3,000 people. Oh sorry, am I being too intolerant by saying that?
