Flynn said nothing about merging church and state.
What one religion do you speculate he was talking about? And why should anyone care anyway. He pleaded guilty twice to lying to federal investigators about his communications with Russia.

Maybe it's the Theosophic/I AM doomsday cult the "Church Universal Triumphant" since he used one of their prayers. Maybe it's the cult of "Q" as he not only has frequently invoked, but seems tied to it from very early in its existence, maybe it's the anti-Francis/TradCath movement of Vigano, Bannon, etc. as he has lots of ties to them and a conservative Catholic background.

Who knows? It's hard to tell with Flynn since he plays to a lot of audiences and blends stuff together in his speeches.

I rather agree to what you've said here. Why should anyone's hair be on fire because Flynn, a private citizen not even in public office, said what he did? And yet, the report showed us a number of people simply going wild with their over-the-top exaggerations and accusations, accusing the guy of all sorts of ideas that he did not address.

If you want to complain about unamerican remarks, pay attention to the Marxist crap being spewed by the Leftists in this country. Plenty of material to choose from there.
And there are mountains of threads to discuss the ways that progressives are trying to change american society. In the meantime, we have this thread here where one get to play mental gymnastics to justify a Republican politician saying something that obviously contradicts your constitution.

Flynn has been traveling around the country and appearing at multi-speaker events with hundreds to thousands of people at churches, in hotel ballrooms, and other venues. The two main components are evangelical/charismatic preaching and right-wing politics of a very paranoid style (dems are commies and going to take away your guns and bibles, that sort of thing.) There are heavy doses of anti-mask/anti-vax rhetoric combined with covid quackery (alternative treatments direct from the scam artists promoting them), the full "Q" thing (you know, the rings of people kidnapping children for rape and brain chemical extraction, mostly dems (of course)), and even content from various cults. In one recent event another speaker was the general counsel of the Church of Scientology (don't be confused by the "Church" or cross-like logo, the CoS has *nothing* to do with Christianity and is instead a self-help cult with hidden aliens).

These events tend to focus on Flynn as a central figure and leader. They lionize him and position him as the one that can get America through this.

It could just be that this is part of an attempted political move by Flynn to become the de facto leader of the GOP and even the nominee and this is just one (theocratic) strain of GOP politics (with a bit of the weird cult and "Q" stuff mixed in for some reason). It could be something much worse. It's hard to tell at this point, but if you value democracy *and* freedom of religious practice then either way, Flynn's movement is a hazard to that combination.

Disgraced former Trump aide Michael Flynn sparks outrage by saying US must have only one religion (msn.com)

Disgraced former Donald Trump aide Michael Flynn has sparked outrage by saying that the US must have only one religion.

Mr Flynn, who twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, called for a single religion on stage at the “Reawaken America” conference in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday night – an event featuring a flurry of Trump loyalists and anti-vaxxer doctors

“If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion," he said.

"One nation under God, and one religion under God.”

Mr Flynn faced an instant backlash for his comments with critics saying he “hates the constitution” and warning about history repeating itself with the Holocaust.

“Michael Flynn hates the US Constitution,” tweeted Preet Bharara, former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Fred Guttenberg, gun safety activist and the father of Parkland massacre victim Jaime Guttenberg, said that Mr Flynn’s comments proved why people need to be educated about “things like race in America and the Holocaust”.

“I am assuming when Michael Flynn tells his GQP followers we need to be a nation with ‘one religion’ he probably is not thinking Judaism,” he tweeted.

“And so, it begins. Maybe teaching history about things like race in America and the Holocaust do matter.”

California Rep Ted Lieu suggested that Mr Flynn “would fall asleep in Church class” and said he was thankful that the US is not a theocracy – a type of government where one religious body holds unlimited power.

Considering that this is Flynn we're talking about, I can guess which religion he's proselytizing for...

Jesus? Mohammed? Buddha? Away with them! We have no King but Donald!

Yes, he's become some sort of keynote speaker for the Trump followers.

The two main components are evangelical/charismatic preaching and right-wing politics of a very paranoid style (dems are commies and going to take away your guns and bibles, that sort of thing.)
If so, he's one of hundreds of other such people on the speaking circuits who fire up an audience that's made up of people wanting to hear that kind of speech, whether it's from Rightist or Leftist speakers. So..."nothing special" so far.

These events tend to focus on Flynn as a central figure and leader. They lionize him and position him as the one that can get America through this.
Well, welcome to the world of politics, Hans! We could probably easily find dozens of other speakers doing the same things and no one is calling them the vanguard of a new Holocaust, for heaven's sake! :sigh:

It could just be that this is part of an attempted political move by Flynn to become the de facto leader of the GOP and even the nominee and this is just one (theocratic) strain of GOP politics (with a bit of the weird cult and "Q" stuff mixed in for some reason). It could be something much worse.
Or it could be that he likes being in the spotlight or that he is paid for his appearances. He was rendered broke, it was said, by all the investigations and litigation that he experienced during the past several years.

He did tank his career by carrying water for a confidence man. And he sounds like someone whose mental health is taking a nose dive.

Flynn said nothing about merging church and state.

Then he said nothing about making his fantasy a reality... which is for the best.

We need to get well beyond known liars like Flynn and Trump. We need to lean from January 6th that damage that has been done. We need leaders who can compromise with the "other side". At this point we need to be able to communicate and work together or it is all over.

Let's begin by not diverting the thread into just one more rant about which political party is always right and which one is always wrong.

That is what I mean. As long as the party in power (whichever) pushes its agenda without good solid bipartisan support, we will not heal as a Nation and only become more divided. But we have to be able to have some trust in our leaders.

He apparently meant that we'd be better off if we were truly "one nation under God" rather than that being just something recited as part of the pledge without much thought being given to it.

Are you Flynn's spokesman?

Are in working up to asking a serious question...or am I supposed to laugh at this?

You seems to be suggesting what he meant to say...much like a spokesman would say trying to spin a different meaning. His words were clear enough. Do you agree with him?

Nope. I was guessing at what he meant by what he did say...just as most of us here on both sides of the issue have done.
