  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been to many different denominational churches(nazarene, salvation army, mennonite, advent christian) even many different Baptist churches(conservative baptist, independent (fundamentalist) baptist, american baptist, southern baptist).

For the most part all these churches were similar.
What matters to me is the worship style and then how I relate to the people (pastor and congregation).
The differences between the denoms in the end do not really matter.
You just need to feel comfortable wherever you go.

Another is origin-Methodism comes from Anglicanism which comes from the English Reformation. Baptists comes from the Reformation on the Continent.

I would disagree with this and say Baptists also come from Anglicanism from the English Reformation. I subscribe to the English separatist origin of Baptists.

This baptist came from North America ;)

God Dragon, what are your thoughts on claims that Baptists aren't Protestants, ie, The Trail of Blood?

I believe Trail of Blood is revisionist history (if you can even call it history) that is a product of the Restorationist movement in the US in the 1800s. Baptists and Anabaptists in their disagreements and dislike for Catholicism and other protestant groups bought into Landmarkism hook-line-and-sinker.

For those who subscribe to Baptist Successionism, I would recommend reading John T. Christian's History of the Baptists which subscribes to this view and tries to be historically accurate.
