• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My daughter is in jail.....a year ago she started using meth...within 3 months she abandoned who kids and went to live on the streets with her boyfriend....their only means of money was stealing...it started off as petty theft and now....stolen vehicle....which is why she is in jail....
I was on my Facebook and came across this post of a young girl crying and sharing her story of her friend who just passed that morning from an overdose......she shared the poem her friend had wrote I think she said...so I am sharing it with you because everything it says is what has happened to my daughter except the death part.

My Name: 'Is Meth'
I destroy homes, I tear families apart, take your children, and that's just the start.
I'm more costly than diamonds, more precious than gold,
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember I'm easily found,

I live all around you - in schools and in town
I live with the rich; I live with the poor,
I live down the street, and maybe next door.
I'm made in a lab, but not like you think,
I can be made under the kitchen sink.

In your child's closet, and even in the woods,
If this scares you to death, well it certainly should.
I have many names, but there's one you know best,
I'm sure you've heard of me, my name is crystal meth.

My power is awesome; try me you'll see,
But if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once and I might let you go,
But try me twice, and I'll own your soul.

When I possess you, you'll steal and you'll lie,
You do what you have to - just to get high.
The crimes you'll commit for my narcotic charms
Will be worth the pleasure you'll feel in your arms, your lungs your nose.

You'll lie to your mother; you'll steal from your dad,
When you see their tears, you should feel sad.
But you'll forget your morals and how you were raised,
I'll be your conscience, I'll teach you my ways.

I take kids from parents, and parents from kids,
I turn people from God, and separate friends.
I'll take everything from you, your looks and your pride,
I'll be with you always - right by your side.

You'll give up everything - your family, your home,
Your friends, your money, then you'll be alone.
I'll take and take, till you have nothing more to give,
When I'm finished with you, you'll be lucky to live.

If you try me be warned - this is no game,
If given the chance, I'll drive you insane.
I'll ravish your body, I'll control your mind,
I'll own you completely, your soul will be mine.

The nightmares I'll give you while lying in bed,
The voices you'll hear, from inside your head.
The sweats, the shakes, the visions you'll see,
I want you to know, these are all gifts from me.

But then it's too late, and you'll know in your heart,
That you are mine, and we shall not part.
You'll regret that you tried me, they always do,
But you came to me, not I to you.

You knew this would happen, many times you were told,
But you challenged my power, and chose to be bold.
You could have said no, and just walked away,
If you could live that day over, now what would you say?

I'll be your master, you will be my slave,
I'll even go with you, when you go to your grave.
Now that you have met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not? It's all up to you.

I can bring you more misery than words can tell,
Come take my hand, let me lead you to heck

So for those in recovery....I know she has to want help but is there anything I can do to encourage her to want that help?
Hard to say. This far in, prayers & patience is probably your best option.

Wish I could say more; talk to God, give Him a lot of quiet time, see what He has to say.

Tough love is the most successful way. We have a Christian run place for meth addicts where addicts pay for their own recovery. It is far more successful than any Government run places. Most of the addicts that succeed come away from there reborn Christians from every perspective of that word.

Maybe reading their philosophy will give you some inspiration.

Praying you can help your daughter break free.

Your daughter is addicted, "too?" What are you saying? That YOU are a meth addict as well?
No my daughter is....I am not...I am probably an enabler in her life....I keep bailing her out of her troubles.

Keep talking to your daughter don’t let that drug put a wall between the both of you. I’m slowly recovering from this drug at times it feels like I should just give up. This drug may take control but it has no power compared to the love God can show your daughter through you and your family.

Hello Dear Sister, I am so sorry to hear of this. The meth monster is hungry and stops at nothing to tear people apart.
First; Please immediately stop helping her. She needs to hit rock bottom and only when she does will she realize her position.
This is so hard on families as this happens but is paramount to her getting clean. Leave her in jail as long as possible because she is getting nourishment from foods that she has robbed her body of for so long and this is needed in healing. Ask the chaplain how to get her vitamins into her meds.. Plus at least she is staying clean while in the joint.
As bad as jail is, It is better than the alternative which could be death.
If I can further help, Please message me anytime and may God intervene in this family and bless you both.
