There is a long history of metaphysics and Orthodoxy. The Greek fathers inherited the philosophical traditions of the ancient philosophers. Many of the Greek concepts of metaphysics were harmonized with Christianity in the tradition of Philo of Alexandria's harmonization of Judaism with metaphysics.

We have to be careful though in pondering cause, nous, etc., because it can lead to heretical ideas.

Metaphysics is simply one of the three types of philosophy, along with epistemology and ethics. Every other type can be considered to fall under one of these three major types.

What does ethics have to do with orthodoxy? What does epistemology have to do with orthodoxy?
These are questions of the same caliber.

And the answer is that Orthodoxy is concerned with truth and wisdom. Philosophy, in proper form, is the search for truth and wisdom motivated by love. Hence, these types of philosophy are all perfected in Orthodoxy.

This happens in cycles; this paradigm shift will juxtaposition spirituality with magic, as it were.
