Ohh, metal....the antitheses of everything I love about rock delivered as crudely and as in your face as possible.While I agree with SlimShadyJB's sentiment I find the description somewhat inaccurate.
In the interest of accuracy, Metal ought to be regarded as something sounding like "Amplified white noise punctuated by tortured screams of pure agony" which ironically is exactly the reaction it inspires in me. It hurts my hears to even think of it.

Perhaps you've only heard death metal?

Describing metal like that is about as ignorant as describing all of rock based solely on Air Supply's discography.

My favorite genres are symphonic metal, power metal, but I like certain bands belonging in other genres while not necessarily liking the genre.

I'm speaking from what I've heard. It's only an opinion so there's really no reason for crude comments the like of which you've brought into this discourse.
All the Metal I've heard hurts my brain, until something else changes my mind I'll stand by this assertion.

Like I said, you were just pulling your comments out of "what you've heard", which I sounds like you didn't know what you were talking about. I came off a little harsh and I apologize, but please widen your view of things before you bash them.

What's interesting is some of the literary influences that metal sometimes has.

Metallica's song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" is taken directly from the 27th and 28th chapters of the book of the same name by Earnest Hemingway.

Amorphis' CD Tales From the Thousand Lakes is taken directly from Finnish folklore.

The point I was trying to make is that you started a thread trashing metal, and turn around in the same thread and say that there's good rap and bad rap, and then criticizing us for not accepting your point of view. I used to have preconceived ideas about metal, now it's one of my favorite genres.

Same here. I used to think it was evil music, but I realized it, just like an other genre of music, can be used for good and made into somethign wonderful.

I can't understand the lyrics and slang in rap, but I'm not corrupting a thread with ignorance. There are so many Metal bands who sing clean. You need to learn more about Metal before you bash it, man.
