There definitely have been threads on metal, although they haven't been posted in for a while, which is probably why you haven't seen one.

Anyway, it's probably a good idea to state what kinds of metal you're into considering that it's such a wide genre. My taste in metal comprises mainly of prog, power and traditional metal.

Metal definitely takes a huge percentage of my music taste. Right now, my favroite subgenres would be doom, post and sludge. I used to be a huge fan of technicality and death metal, but I've lately found myself interested in the atmospheric aspects more. Although, Behemoth remain one of my overall favorite bands to this day.

Antestor are pretty good. I suppose because they aren't victim to many of the usual black metal cliches.

Ohh, metal....the antitheses of everything I love about rock delivered as crudely and as in your face as possible.While I agree with SlimShadyJB's sentiment I find the description somewhat inaccurate.
In the interest of accuracy, Metal ought to be regarded as something sounding like "Amplified white noise punctuated by tortured screams of pure agony" which ironically is exactly the reaction it inspires in me. It hurts my hears to even think of it.

Metal? Crude? Maybe whatever crap they spew out on the radio nowadays, but anybody who knows anything about metal knows that metal is far more complicated then any rock band.

That, and their are dozens of kinds of metal....a progressive metal band like Dream Theater is an entirely different beast then a death metal band like Nile.

An even more extreme form of this is Behemoth's later lyrics (Thelema.6, Zos Kia Cultus, Demigod)
Nile's lyrics are a great way to learn about ancient Egyptian mythology.
