Metal Start #2 (suggestion thread)

Ok so I started a thread abt a year ago asking for suggestions in metal music, because I am new to the metal "scene".

After checking out those bands, I am ready for some more reccomendations.

I dont like growling like in death/hardcore metal, unless it is used sparingly....also I like buildup....Dragonforce has no buildup, its 999MPH the whole song. I also dont like obviously anti christian themes

I DO like, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Wuthering Heights, Opeth, Outworld, Disturbed, Godsmack, Black Sabbeth, Bullet For My Valentine, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage and.....Demons And Wizards!! Are there any other awesome bands like D&W????? man thier songs are amazing.....

All of them.

Seriously though, I would recommend Number Of The Beast, Powerslave or Piece Of Mind. I think most people would agree that those represent Maiden at their peak.

Alternatively, there are a number of compilations around which may give a decent overview of the band. I don't know exactly what songs are on them, so I can't comment any further.

As for other bands - you liked Demons and Wizards, so maybe you should try Iced Earth, which is the main band of D&W guitarist Jon Schaffer.

Elvenking are similar to Wuthering Heights in the way that they incorporate folk elements into their music, so that's another option.

On the more progressive side, I really like Threshold and Shadow Gallery. You should possibly try out Savatage as well.

Nevermore, Enslaved (black metal vocals, but also some clean ones and the music is too great to dismiss it because of a preference of vocals), Neurosis, Agalloch (again, distorted vocals, but just check out the music), Porcupine Tree (not all of their albums/songs are metal though).

If you like a few of these, I can name a lot of others once I see what direction you'd like to go into.

Well you said you didnt like Anti Christian Themes, but Opeth has songs like that...so does Godsmack and Disturbed, the Album "Believe" has the most anti Christ lyrics out of all of them, but Neither of these relevent enough to count much so forget i said that, but i posted this anyway because i was bored

check out James LaBrie's (singer for Dream Theater) - Elements of Persuasion album. it is very similar to DT style (ie progressive metal) but still quite different, and i love it

hehe your right...2 totally differant genres, but I dont think he was compareing...just saying they have both had anti christian lyrics....

Listened to Nevermore, and I luv em!! also heard enslaved and your right, you couldnt just dissmiss them for thier distorted lyric style, because the music is really good...still now quite sure if I could really get into them alot because of that tho....

You should check out some nice drone metal like Sunn O))), Boris, Khanate, Earth, and Nadja to name a few. They are all pretty awesome.

Gotta go for The Number of the Beast on this one. It's the classic Maiden album and the one they're most known for. My personal favorite is Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. If you want something recent that's really awesome, check out Dance of Death or A Matter of Life and Death.
