Church history. (A 2000 year old community is going to have a history.)

I happen to belong to the second oldest Christian community, The Church of Antioch, the first Gentile Church 34AD. Our parent Church (Christian community) is the Church of Jerusalem 33AD, that sect of Jews who became the first Church. I am glad to answer questions from that vantage point if it helps.

It is true that we called it "The Way" (see the didache) and adopted the Roman insult "Christian" as a name.

Was that a serious question about John? He was the only Apostle who did not die a martyr.

Forgive me...

I heard he's the only apostle wasn't murdered. I heard he was boiled in oil but miraculously came alive. I dunno, I just heard. And I agree the name "Christian" was mentioned in the book of Acts. ;)
Right now in our days it's hard to mention it to the Jews because they believed the real "Christians" are the antisemitic... :(
I heard about that "Didache" from Perry Stone.
Btw, why did you said "forgive me" to me?

To me I think this is one movement that makes sense.

Yes, they don't observe Halloween and Easter and Christmas because they are not Christian holidays.

It makes me shake my head to even think Churches, pastors who are throwing celebrations on these pagan holidays. AN honest study would reveal that these celebrations are entirely satanic. Being a Christian would you want to participate on a day where baby sacrifices are going on around the country? Would you want to participate on a day where sex and fertility are the central themes? Would you want to confuse your congragation with bunnies, christmas gifts and putting pumpkin lanterns on your step? If you disagree, I challenge you to check into why kids go knocking door to door? They collected children for sacrifices for Bone fires back in the day. How confusing is that?

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

We are meant to keep the festivals and feasts. IN FACT, the most astonishing thing is these festivals have prophecies in them. Did you know that God had his people keep these festivals for hundreds of years before Jesus came. He taught in the word how to keep them. (They are pretty easy to keep) and they were AN EXACT reprensentation of what was to come? Passover is Gods true day, yet the church keeps Estar. Do you get what I am saying?

We are supposed to keep Sabbath. Friday night to Saturday night. Many churches say... oh keep Sunday. God wants us to get the day right. It makes a difference. Much of the churches claim..... "oh keep the 9 commandments, but the sabbath commandment is no longer important" That is so far from the truth. I ask this... why did Jesus keep it? Why did the father in Genesis rest on the last day, and why did the followers after Jesus died keep the sabbath? Why will be keeping the sabbath when Jesus returns? SO, then why in ONLY THIS point in time do we not keep the sabbath? I tell you, God does not change, ...... Look in the past, and it should tell you the way he is, Jesus didn't change anything when he came, he was a continuation. (Don't get me wrong, we are saved by grace, not by works) But there is no excuse for not keeping the sabbath and the festivals. It is another way our mainline church is teaching the wrong things. The mainline church is sitting in the curses, not the full power of God.

One really spectacular piece of evidence to show Jews is that the bible codes reveal the Name of Jesus in the actual old testament prophecies.

Did you know that 74 BIBLE CODES are found in Isaiah 52-53

YUP! All the disciples, the three mary's, it is pretty amazing!

I do think there is a big move of God taking place. Do a quick search on Tom Deckard who has been told by God to gather ephraim. He is doing the greater works Jesus said we are meant to have. He is raising the dead, curing cancer, curing people of aids, making disabled people walk.

There is a big movement of God taking place. You tube Tom Deckard and see for your self.

There is black and white issues in the bible, but yet our church seems that it cannot even distinguish these basic issues. The problem is that many preachers are fearful of teaching these things in the event they are to loose their job. I once heard on a radio program last week that asked 2 main line church preachers to rate the church on a 1 to 10.... 10 being flawless. They both rated the church between a 7 and 8. I just shook my head. The main line churches are all seperated. We have no more unity. Many people cannot receive correction on the most biblically based things. We do not evangelize as a whole anymore. We have not standed up for the 1000 babies killed every day in this abortion movement. We cannot even produce the gifts that Jesus procaimed we would do, and greater. We are so far behind. In fact, go on Meetup dot com and do a search in most cities under religion. See that most of the "religious" groups are witchcraft groups. In a poll of 18-34, close to 50% said they claimed themselves as believers in a no god, no relgion. So, would you really say the church is in a good position? We are far behind where we should be.

I know some messianic jew are not Chritians, and I want to know how many have a Messiah out there and their name, recently we were in a Bible study and this came up. Messianic Jew do not means the Messiah is Christ, I know one case (which I don't want to name) but please educate me about others. God Bless!!!

But if they believe in the Messiah why are they not Christians?

There has been several Jewish messiahs who have had followings and are by various jewish groups and standards messiahs... totally different from Messianic Judaism which follows Yeshua. Some one has taken the time to list them in .. Jewish Messiah claimants - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome Miranda! I hope you stick around and join in on some of the discussions. You do sound a bit Messianic. ;)

My only comment in regard to Easter, Christmas and yes, even Halloween, is that in to today's culture none of the old meanings are any longer attached. Does that make it right? Eh, maybe, maybe not. But very well intentioned people celebrate all three. Easter really is a meaningful way of honoring Yeshua's death and Christmas can be a really really meaningful way of honoring His birth. Halloween I just don't even include in the religoius holidays as it's completely secular and benign, in my opinion, having been so far removed from its original meaning.

It depends on who you ask. Most do consider themselves Christians and it really is a branch of Christianity as Messianics are followers of Yeshua. The problem is that many Messianics reject Christian practices and follow some of Judaism because Yeshua was Himself a Jew.

Halloween... Hallowed Eve..

All Hallowed Eve, the evening before All Saints Day. Our focus on All Hallowed Eve is in preparation for a holy day of remembrance of those who have been named Saints by the Church. The very next day is All Souls Day, wherein we remember the souls of our dearly departed family and friends, and we remember to pray for them and for those in heaven, we ask them to pray for us...ACTS - All Hallowed Eve Information

And that's an entirely different take altogether. Who knows?

I don't believe in either one because I don't believe in appointed Saints nor do I believe we need to set aside a day to talk to the dead.

Keep in mind that All Saints Day is not Halloween (as vis rightly pointed out) and that All Hallow's Eve (when it was celebrated) was celebrated in a manner in the Church service that bears no resemblance whatsoever to Halloween. It was just another service, with some extra prayers. Perhaps some places still celebrate it (though probably only a tiny few RC churches would). I don't know. Anyway- it's one of those Holy Days that have lost meaning and fallen into disuse I would say.

Sounds cool to me! i'm just not sure about Sabbath because I dunno how people are sure that Saturday or Sunday is must be the Sabbath... I have work on weekends so I dunno I just set my Friday off my Sabbath... I dunno, maybe a lot of people will criticize me with this one but I can't make it Saturday nor Sunday because it's my schedule of work... :( So Friday's my Sabbath (for me) to spend time with the Lord. :)
About the Easter, I used to hate those who criticize it but now I wonder about it. We should share the passover to our friends in the loving kind way not in aggressiveness to criticize them that "hey Easter is a cult". We should tell them nicely so they'll not be offended. :)
My answer for most preachers who criticize is because they limit God in their own human theology and some of them use traditions like what Jesus said in Mark 7:13... "making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do."
They should trust in the Lord, not in their human perspective.

Come over to the MHC sub-forum and ask some serious questions, then. :)

Pesach is great to share with anyone. I would say that Easter is not Pesach, nor is it a replacement for it. It celebrates a different event. Do both if you can.

Maybe trusting in the Lord means to step out in faith and celebrate days in remebrance of the life of Yeshua.

Nah, what I meant I wonder about it and now convinced. I used an incomplete explanation.

I'm fine with passover, it shows the great beauty of what really Jesus did and point out. I want to rely in the Lord's feasts. :D

Maybe trusting in the Lord means to step out in faith and celebrate days in remebrance of the life of Yeshua.
Hmm, I dunno... I believe trust in the Lord, not in our human perspectives or our own thinking that will limit God and even the people who proclaim they're sent by God but they teach to limit God instead of showing God to us. ;)

I don't think you'll get critisized at all! ;) For me the Sabbath is really difficult as well, but if I feel guilty about it because if I really tried I could probably get it to work. It's just an excuse, but I live in a Christian community, or really just a Christian set-up community, in which all my children's activities are on Saturday.

You have a nice way of describing you thoughts on Easter. I agree full heartedly that no one should be critisized for celebrating the day that Yeshua was risen. It is a very holy week indeed and those who celebrate have only Yeshua in their heart...those who who celebrate the religious aspect of it is, without the focus on the bunny. ;)

Who in the world came up with the Easter Bunny anyway... Was it a cadbury thing.

Nevermind I found the answer... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Bunny

Silly Germans.
easter&

"Santa Clause" was Macy's Dept Store, ripping off St. Nicholas the wonderworker of Myra.

Forgive me...

Thanks! I know! Christians should focus on Yeshua but here we live with different religions so most people celebrate Easter with those rabbit shaped chocolates and egg shaped chocolates... :(

I tend to agree with the sentiments expressed here- but I always warn against judging the Body of Christ for celebrating the Church calendar- it's a great and amazing blessing to one's life when done properly.

I don't mind when Gentiles join with us to celebrate the Feasts either- they can learn a lot and if it wasn't for Gentile believers many of us might have missed the prefiguration of Yeshua in the Feasts. It's all good.
