Hi greenboy,

Messianic Jews are Jews who follow Yeshua and worship Him like Jews did in the 1st century without 2000 years of manmade gentile tradition being added.

They also use a Hebraic name (Messianic) rather than a Hellenistic name (Christian) lest other Jews whom they wish to reach with the Good News of Salvation mistake them for the “Christians” who murdered countless Jews over the centuries.

Yeshua bless you,
Israel

I know some messianic jew are not Chritians, and I want to know how many have a Messiah out there and their name, recently we were in a Bible study and this came up. Messianic Jew do not means the Messiah is Christ, I know one case (which I don't want to name) but please educate me about others. God Bless!!!

Shalom greenboy,

P.S. Gentiles are permitted to worship Yeshua like the original Jewish believers did because they are grafted into the Jewish olive tree (Romans 11), those who do are called Messianic believers.

What a strange world it is in which we live... as I said at the beginning of this thread, it is down to how you define the key words! Most of the other posts have been doing just that but have we answered the OP yet? Possibly?

Yep. Because the Hebrew Roots/Messianic/Hebraic movement is so new, there's still a lot of confusion out there, and a lot of doctrine etc. to sort out. Labels are a massive problem, as is identity (which is interesting in the light of post-modernism, I think.) Right now, there's good and bad and there's constructive and there's lunatic fringe too. It's even difficult for me to say whether or not this whole thing will peter out as some historic trend or whether or not it will become important. The revival of interest in the Hebrew root among the denominations is a great thing, IMHO (and it keeps me busy!), but the excesses in the movement tend to constantly put things back a step or two. One can only watch and wait I think, and hope and pray for the best.

I don't know either, he has been online since starting this thread but has chosen not to respond.

CM, I know a group in the UK who are wholly Gentile led and, I think, without any Jews at all in their meetings, who lay tefillin and live their lives as Orthodox Jews who believe in Yeshua. They say they have converted FROM Messianic Judaism!

Strange, or what?

Very strange. Identity crisis perhaps?

The first "Messianics" I met were led by a Jew, but were all Gentiles. The woman dressed like Muslims with "Jesus is Lord" embroidered on the forehead area of their hijabs. Their leader was a professional entertainer and musician before starting this group, which lived in community. They kept some Jewish feasts, IIRC. The leader told me that God told him that Muslims would invade and conquer Austalia in 1998 and that "true" Christians would readily submit and not fight back (he obviously doesn't understand the average Aussie!). He even got to be on TV on human interest type story. They tried to drag me into their way of thinking, probably because I am Jewish and my family is well known in some Jewish circles. Anyway, on the first day of 1999, I rang one of their members, and told him that his leader was a false prophet, and the guy left the group. They ran a smear campaign on me from that point till now. He later informed me that what attracted him to that sect was his own personal identity crisis. He converted to Catholicism and now claims that his identity is in Christ. :) I actually see a lot of hurt people seeking an identity these days, which might just tie in to the group you are describing.

Many years ago someone I know (a Christian with an international ministry) reckoned that if you take 1000 people who attend church regularly and 1000 people who never attend church, you will find that there are more with deep hurts in the Church group than in non-Church group. I reckon he is right - outside the Church you either smack them hard or never speak to them again whilst inside Church there is often no real way to deal with hurts (folk often ignore the Mattityahu 5 teaching) and they just get suppressed until something happens to bring it to the fore again.

Yes, good point. There's a lot to be said of the need for a revival of poimenics.

Also, I think some churches are worse than others. You tend to see churches that minister to the down-trodden, wounded and marginalised have a tougher job and more pained congregation than say a church with lots of middle class and middle aged cradle Christians, for example. Just my opinion.

Such technical words, and almost before breakfast, too ;)

(for those who do not know it is the study and/or application of pastoral theology)

Uhh....yeah.....I didn't realise I had deferred to the lesser known term- but it is the best one for the job. :)

One thing - this forum has a number of people who consider themselves Messianic (though not necessarily Messianic Jews). If a situation ever arose where I was asked about the sincerity of the faith in Yeshua of the people that post here I would glady state that there is a solid, firm and sincere love for Yeshua in this place shared by all, regardless of what others might think. I'm not claiming to know their hearts, but if activity and zeal for the word and the holy life is anything to go by- this forum has a lot of Jesus people. :)

I was once a Christian! Yet, I was not an acceptable believer, I would have never entered into the city by it's gates. Then I learned Torah! Baruch Hashem, now I know whom I am serving.
Mt 7:21 ¶ "Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Baruch Hashem!

Shalom

I like it, I was a hypocrite Christian but now I know Jesus (Yeshua) personally. I'm really happy to know Him personally. i think the word "Christian" isn't really good to mention for most Jews (i guess) because that word had a bad history, antisemitic... :(
So sad...
