  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, been saved for about 2 yrs now but not plugging into my relationship with Jesus the way I would like to be.

Would not mind finding someone in my area to mentor me/or just befriend me. Someone who is way farther down the road than me!

Do I just make some phone calls to churches in the area?

I have no home church, and really do not know how to find someone.

Appreciate any help,

K

Hi Silly : )

Yup it's that easy, but be careful of snakes in the grass and pray on it, maybe someone here can help you out? I don't know I hope so.

You haven't mentioned your location? Maybe that will make it easier?

The easiest and safest way to do that is to find a home church and plug into a ministry. If you're a teenager, join a youth group. If you're in college, join a campus ministry.

Also, your mentor should be another woman. With same-sex mentoring, everything just goes smoother and safer.

Not to mention that it avoids impure motives. Your focus ought to be on Christ and it is a lot easier if there isn't the possibility of some romantic relationship brought on by having a member of the opposite sex as your mentor. Go with a woman mentor for sure.

Oh yes definitely another woman, it didn't even cross my mind to find a male mentor! Besides that I am almost 50, and wouldn't mind someone around my age. I do not have a church yet, so I don't know who to call... And, u are right also in that I have to be careful whom I chose. Gosh, this is harder than I thought.

Perhaps part of the difficulty is that you don't yet have a church. It can be hard as a Christian if you don't have the fellowship and support of other Christians. I'm sure finding the right church is a priority for you, and once you find it then it should be easier to find someone to be your mentor/prayer partner/spiritual director. I hope you are led to both the church and the mentor God has planned for you!

The absolute easiest and safest way is to fellowship with believers here online and listen to a good radio ministry online such as Dr. Barnhouse and the Bible on http://www.accradio.com/ I have listened to this radio ministry for nearly ten years and have never gone to church, not that I think it's not necessary, but it just never happened for me......and so I do some light mingling here on the forum to make up for it ;)

Your spiritual growth and faith will come mainly from reading the Bible first, so concentrate on that.

It is quite good, but fellowship with brothers and sisters is very important, strength in numbers, if you falter or fall you have support.

But you are here a least so that counts for something I guess.

go in peace brother

I've been a Christian technically since I was born, but I truly dedicated my life to Christ since 1997. Keep checking out Christian sites and befriend some Christians (just please be careful in doing so). I help out at another site, www.tribforcehq.com, which has good Biblical teaching and we're a small community so please stop by whenever (I'm jesusfreak418 at Trib) and we even have a Mentoring program at Angels on Call at Trib, which may be what you're looking for. I know the Christian ladies who run the program and they're very sweet and understanding. God bless!! ^_^
