  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's something I wrote back when Obama was in office and I think it is still a good message:

You looked at a president with honesty and integrity with whom you disagreed and made an appropriate post.
I wish we faced a similar situation but that ship sailed $3 billion crypto coins ago.

You don't have to call Trump names. You just have to quote him and stick to the facts.

Sadly, to some people, there no perceivable difference.

I wish others had the maturity to do the same with our current President. The office is still worth respecting and Jesus died for him, just as much as He died for Obama, you and I.

It has nothing to do with the person - I did not like Obama - I thought he was not good for the country, disagreed with many things - thought he was one of the worst in US history until we got saddled wit Joe Biden.

It's not about the person in the office - it is about how I as a Christian treat the person in the office. I'm not telling others to do anything, just reminding myself how I loathed the man, but treated the office with respect. No one, not even Biden is wrong 100% all the time.

So we are to respect obnoxious tweets, posts, whatever just because they come from the office of the President. Sorry, he has done too much damage to the dignity the office once had. That dignity is now history.

I think you misunderstood my post.

I’ve said. Numerous times I wish he’d just shut up at times - but that doesn’t mean I can disrespect the office. If we reduce ourselves to sophomoric name calling and mocking because we don’t like his sophomoric name calling and mocking - how are we any different.

If the reply is “well he is the President, we should expect more” - I agree with you, but that doesn’t excuse my words towards him.

The eight years of Obama tested my patience just like yours is being tested now.

I just choose to act differently.

I can differentiate the man from his behavior. I have said a few times that it is his behavior, attitude and what he stands for that I hate. We can’t even repost some of his posts here because of the obscenity. I grieve for the dignity the office once had.

In my opinion, the 2 Presidents whom have done the most damage and are the 2 worst Presidents in my lifetime are President Obama and President Biden. However, despite that, I still respected both of them as POTUS. Unfortunately, far too many progressive left wing liberals don't appear to be able to have even a modicum of respect at all for our current POTUS.

I respected other Republican presidents even more than some of the democrats. But I can have no respect for Trump. He is a disgrace to the office. And yet I would still call him “Mr. President”

Thank you for your response. However, in my opinion, both Obama and Biden were a far bigger disgrace to the office of POTUS than Trump has ever come close to being. Again, that is my opinion.

The Attorney General is prosecuting people who post “8647”.
That’s just “pettiness”; if Comey announced that his attorney’s fees will be paid by an anonymous donor, the “prosecution” would withdraw, because the case is about Trump being offended, not because a “former employee” broke a law.

[Gee I hate it when my train-of-thought jumps the tracks…The only “punishment” the President is seeking is putting Jim Comey “through some stuff”, if the former director is making coin on it, what would be the point of continuing the case?]

I generally still give Trump credit when he does something I think is a good idea. (I think, it’s been a while…).
