For those of you looking forward to "The Passion" (like me) there is a new preview of the movie here: www dot themoviebox dot net/movies/2004/NOPQR/Passion_The/trailer-page.html

(sorry I can't post the full, correct url, I don't have enough posts yet, so replace the dots with .)

The preview itself is VERY moving, it brought me to tears seeing all of those things that Jesus suffered for a lowly sinner like me.

The only qualm I have about it is it shows Christ being pierced through the palms of his hands (which I don't find to be historicly or Biblicly accurate).

You may want to check your Bible(John Chap. 20) Thomas was invited to check out the holes in Christs hands. Here's a clue, they weren't made by rope and they weren't in his wrist.

Please remember this is a Protestant area and respect that.

God Bless,

Good point.

I really wish we had an option of having an affiliation that would color code the forum that we were in (perhaps with a yellow background) if it were different than our own. I have more than once had to self-edit a post because I forgot to scroll up to the top when doing a quick post to check that I was in an appropriate area for my comments.

I think I have studied that verse (John 20:27) in the Bible for longer than any other. The original greek says: εἶτα λεγει τῷ Θωμᾷ· φέρε τὸν δάκτυλόν σου ὧδε καὶ ἴδε τὰς χεῖράς μου, καὶ φέρε τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ βάλε εἰς τὴν πλευράν μου, καὶ μὴ γίνου ἄπιστος ἀλλὰ πιστός.

The word that is translated into hands here is χεῖράς

This word can mean hands, but from what I've read can also be translated into wrists. I can not find any other word that Greek would be more likely to use for wrists, therefore if John did intend to write wrists it is likely he would have used this word.

Also in all of the research I've read (both secular and Christian) it has always been determined that the bones of the hand are too weak to support the weight of a human body, thus crucifixion was typically done between the bones of the wrist where it is stronger.

Just to be clear this is not a flame or nything, I HONESTLY want to find the truth, if it does end up pointing me towards through the palms than that is fine, I just wanna be able to answer unbeliever's qualms about it.

Did you study the site I posted earlier? It changed my opinion of the matter. It even has some of the original documentation and photos from Barbet's studies. Happy hunting and God bless you.

Neal

It is a very interesting site, I'm not sure if it was Barbet's studies that I formed myu opinions from so I'm unable to determine if it should change my opinion. What I would REALLY like to see is a few, modern, independent studies. If you run across any feel free to send them to me.

hey brother,
not to throw us more off topic, but I heard that the bones in the hands did not neccessarily need to support the body weight. There are various methods of simply relieving tension of the hands using basic leverage, which would get around this problem. Depends on if they used it or not. :)
