hey brother,
not to throw us more off topic, but I heard that the bones in the hands did not neccessarily need to support the body weight. There are various methods of simply relieving tension of the hands using basic leverage, which would get around this problem. Depends on if they used it or not. :)

thanx for your input, a few questions on this:

1) Know of any useful sites with further information?
2) Would these methods needs to be done by the victim? (If so I don't think we would never see success with this beause eventually - possibly just before death - all victims would have more important things running through their minds than continual practice of these methods)

i believe there is a slight reference at the bottom of the article issh posted...

http://www.shroud.com/zugibe.htm

I have also seen a video of this, suggesting nails alone, no matter where they were nailed, could not reliably support a human body...thus they used basic phsycial princinples of leverage, e.g. bending the knees and wrapping the feet to the cross, or even supplying some protruding piece to rest the lower abdonmen on (i.e. chair). Of course, this is all theoritical, as we were never there. :)
