The small group that was on the run stopped in a glen in the center of the forest for the remainder of the night. Diamond sank to the ground pulling her cloak about her tightly. Jack was searching the area for any sign of danger and the others were gathering firewood. Ivan glanced over at her, nudged Emily then turned back to a stack of firewood. Emily approached her and sat down, "Is everything all right?"
Diamond looked at her, "Yes, just tired."
Emily was silent as she watched Ivan attempt to light a fire. Jack appeared in the glen and dismounted. He glanced around the area then went to Ivan, took the tinder box from him and started a fire within moments. Emily cleared her throat, "What happened back at the tavern?"
Nothing you'd want to know, thought Diamond. "A bunch of men fighting and blood."
Emily grimaced, "Were you part of it?"
Diamond rubbed her cheek, "...yeah."
Jack joined them sitting on the otherside of Diamond. Diamond smiled up at him and Emily nodded to him, "I guess I'll join the other's at the fire."
She stood and walked gracefully away. Ivan greeted her cheerfully, but Diamond could tell he was still worried she'd reject him. Jack took her hand giving it a gentle squeeze, "What did she want?"
Diamond shrugged, "Nothing much, just making idle conversation. She wanted to know what happened at the tavern."
Jack smiled slightly, "Did you tell her?"
Diamond met his eyes, "I told her there was fighting but I didn't give detail on what it was for or anything. I didn't want to make her sick."
Jack laughed, "Aw, you should have."
Diamond simply smiled. Jack took her chin and turned it so he could see her cheek. He frowned, "How'd you get this bruise?"
"Oh, that..." she moved to cover it with her hand, but he took her hand. "That's from the time I spent in the dungeon..."
Her voice faltered as his green eyes searched her face; "No, this bruise is more recent. It's from the tavern fight, isn't it?"
Diamond frowned at being caught in a lie and sighed, "You know, I'm not made of glass, Jack. One bruise won't kill me."
Jack ran a thumb lightly over her darkening cheek murmurring, "I know, but it's not pretty."

Guy Trevalleck wandered through the deserted streets looking for a likely spot to crash for the remainder of the night. Suddenly, he heard a commotion around the corner. Curious, he went to find out what was going on. In his forty-one years he knew that nothing good ever happened on the streets after midnight. He peeked around the corner and saw a man on horseback. He was shuffling quickly through a bag that was slung over his shoulder evidentally looking for something. Another group of people were hurrying off behind him and in front of him a small force on horse back were racing towards them. Guy figured that his man must have a plan and sat down to wait and see what it was.
