We are just now starting to figure out why we can't conceive. I had blood tests taken at the beginning of Febuary but nothing was found. I go back the 8th of March for another doctors visit and probably more tests.

Are you going through simular problems? If so I know what your feeling and wanted to offer a :hug: :hug: to you! {{{}}}

My wife and I have gone through more problems than I can remember in this area. We were both told by seperate doctors that neither of us would be able to have and children. By a miracle we did have one and she is the greatest blessing in our lives. But all other attemps have failed. My wife just last week had her 8th miscarriage. And just yesterday found out about some growths on her ovaries. Her grandmother died from ovarian cancer and her mother had to have a historectomy to get rid of the same problem so we are concerned as to what is going on. It looks like we are not going to have another baby but will look towards adoption to increase the family.

That's really special that you have a little miracle baby. There is a lot to think about with adoption isn't there? It seems so overwhelming. I hope things aren't too bad with your wife. The poor thing. You must both be hurting through all this.

My husband and I have been trying since we've been married to concieve (we've been married 4 years) and still have not yet. I found out last April that I have PCOS and was prescribed Metformin to take. I was doing great, taking everything on time, but in December I lost my medical insurance and haven't taken any Metformin since early December. I don't think it was doing much for me anyway. I go back April 27th and if I haven't concieved by then (which most likely I won't) I will have to go on fertility drugs. YAY... I haven't had a regular period since I was on birth control in 2003. The only reason I was on that was to see if my period would straighten out. It didn't work.

Anyway, last month we bought a puppy. The breeder that we bought our pride and joy from is 37. She and her husband have been married for 8 years and were told that she could never concieve. Well, guess what. Those doctors were wrong. She is now pregnant with her first child. When she told me this I got so hopeful for my situation. It was like God was telling me that no matter what any of the doctors tell you that if it is in God's plan for you, you will have a baby. So, I know that I am young yet and will one day get pregnant. Until then it's fun trying! :D

What does Metformin do exactly? Is it supposed to help with ovulation? I have PCOS and have to see a specialist in June (unfortunately couldn't be sooner). I just assumed that Metformin is a kind of fertility drug?

Well, PCOS affects the amount of insulin your body makes; it causes too much to be made. Metformin is usually prescribed to Diabetics to control their insulin levels. One of the side effects is that a woman can become more fertile, making it easier for her to get pregnant. But, it's not a fertility drug. It's also not much fun to take. I hope you don't have to end up taking it...

Yeah, me too! I have heard that PCOS is often found in overweight people (i.e. the insulin thing) which is kinda strange because that is not a symptom that I have, also I seem to have fairly regular periods etc. The only real symptoms I have had are abdominal pain and infertility. It kinda confuses me a bit.

Yeah, PCOS can be found in overweight women, but not always. If you have any questions or concerns, though, I would definitely talk to your doctor before you start any medications. You can ask him why you got this particular ailment. Don't take it if you are unsure of anything. :)

I endured 5 long years trying to conceive, and 3 surgeries, and 1 near death experience before I succumbed to a complete hysterectomy. I was extremely depressed, still am, that hubby and I were not able to conceive another, final addition to our humble family. I had cervical cancer, ovarian cysts and severe endo. I had a complete hyst including cervix. It tears me to pieces, but I am a new woman, wife, mom....I cannot even begin to explain what the pain, hormone imbalance and depression was doing to me!!!!! But that doesnt even come close to that pain of not being able to have another child. :prayer: My thoughts and prayers to all of you ladies.

I just want to encourage you all. I got married 5 years ago and started trying for a baby straight away. 18 months later i was told i had PCOS, i had an op and then medication non of which worked. I was told that i would not concieve naturally and was referred for IVF. A lot of prayer went into this situation from the whole church. Whilst waiting for IVF we concieved, almost 3 years from trying. I now have a beautiful baby girl who is 18 months old.

I recently had another laparoscopy to check how things were and to cut the nerve endings to my womb. Once i came round from the anaesthetic the consultant told me that there was no longer any sign of PCOS on my ovaries. This is another answer to prayer.

We are now trying for another baby but this time i am not going to let myself get worked up or stressed about it because i have my darling daughter but also because i know that all things are possible through God and when he knows that the time is right then it will happen.

I lift you up in prayer and ask God to be with you during this time, as i know how difficult it can be.

I, too, suffered from PCOS and God miraculously provided us with a baby despite doctor's reports that it would take "extensive fertility treatment" to conceive. It tears me up knowing how many people I have met in this and other forums that have suffered with PCOS and how limited doctor's responses seem to be still, in 2005.

By the way, God provided a miracle for us in that after the 2nd round of Clomid, we conceived. God is sooo good, and there's no other reason we have our Kayleigh Samantha Grace except through him. Doctors still can't figure out why the Clomid worked or why the Metformin, Prometrium and everything else worked...or why my body was able to maintain the pregnancy....they just don't know our God, huh?

God bless you all...thought I'd post this just to encourage someone not to give up!!!

Thanks for this...it turns out that my 1st round of clomid actually worked! I am now 11 weeks pregnant and doing well so far.

My aunty also had PCOS and didn't find out until she had already fallen pregnant after IVF. So glad my doctor is more aware of this problem than my aunty's were 10 years ago!!!

Gosh, it feels like I haven't been on here in forever. Sorry about that. In May I started my first job in three years so I've been super busy with that. But, I wanted to update you all...
Earlier this month I went to my doctor's. I had been told in October (2004) that if I didn't concieve by now, he would put me on Clomid. But first my hubby had to be checked. So two weeks ago he did his duty and we took it to be tested. I called a couple of days later to see if I could get the results. I was told that they had just come in and they all looked good, but she wanted to have the doctor look over the results before I started the Clomid. Well, they called me back last week and said that the doctor looked at them and said that he had a low count. :sigh: I got sooo depressed...and so did my poor husband. I can't start the Clomid yet and he has to retest next month. The only thing I can think of is that he did his "thing" when it was hot and humid-I've read that that factor can affect the sperm count. Anyway, needless to say, we are pretty upset. But, all we can do is leave it up to God. We realize that He puts us through these trials to see how we deal and who we turn to. It's not fun, but I know that God knows when it is right for us to concieve. And if we can't...well...there are always other options. Plus, I know that we are still quite young-women are having babies into their fifties now. I just ask that you all pray for my husband and I, PLEASE. We need all the prayer and hope that we can get.:prayer:

Sorry to make this so lengthy, but thanks in advance for your prayers.

Congratulations to everyone who's concieved!! :amen:

My problem was different than any of the others posted here. I had 3 miscarriages and a stillbirth. After having a stilbirth at 24 weeks, my doctor did some testing to find out why. It turned out that I had a septum in my uterus that divided it in half, so the baby wouldn't grow any bigger. That is why my water broke at that stage and our baby was a stillbirth. The other miscarriages occured when the fetus implanted on the septum where there isn't much blood or nutrients. I had the surgery to remove the septum and now have 3 beautiful children, ages 5, 3, 19 months.

They found out I had ovarian cysts in Spet.03 when they ruptured, I was treated for them until I went off BC this March. Hopefully no new cysts will grow, so far so good. We were worried because the cysts were not allowing the eggs to fully develop, before they were realised from the overy.
