Two silver-blue eyes sparkled with glee as the young elf child silently snuck out of her window. It was well into the night, but she had an urge to be out among the wilderness. So, as soon as she'd landed on the ground, she darted off into the thick forest, ready to explore the night.

She'd been running for hours. The sun would soon be rising, and she knew she needed to get back home, but she couldn't bring herslef to leave her glorious surroundings. She loved the songs of the crickets, and the chatterings of the mice. But the peaceful scene was about to take a drastic turn.

From out of nowhere, a hand suddenly grabbed the young girl's wrist. Before she could let out a scream, the large hand covered her mouth. She fought to escape, but the figure was too strong. A fist hit the side of her face, sending her flying towards the ground. She coughed, blood sputtering out of her mouth.

She was brought to her feet. Another fist sent her flying even further, nearly rendering her unconscious. Tears filled her eyes and a soft wail escaped. She was brought to her feet again.

Two large hands gripped her throat and squeezed. Despite her constant efforts to free herself from the figure's grip, the child couldn't escape. Her luns burned and ached, desiring the oxygen they needed. Her body stiffened as the end drew near, not yet giving in to the death it awaited. The figure was patient, and watched the childs eyes fill with determination.

Finally, darkness filled her eyes. The spark of life that once lit the young girls features faded and, despite her strongest attempts to hold onto life, disappeared. Her muscles relaxed and her petite body slowly grew limp. A smile twisted on the figure's lips as their hands let go of her throat and the last breath escaped her body. Her eyes closed and her body fell to the ground.

The figure chuckled and ran off into the forest. Soon, the war would start and victory would soon be within his grasp.

Character bio for Drake: http://www.christianforums.com/t2574192-drake.html

"I wish all days could be as beautiful as this one," thought Drake. He walked slowly through a lush green field and marveled at the crystal clear weather that had shown itself. Everything, from the butterflies floating on the soft gentle breeze to the leaves basking in the warm sunlight, seemed to further amplify the relaxed mood that he was in.

((Could you post the link to your characters bio? Thanks))

Two exotic-green eyes watched as the sun rose from behind the silouhetted mountains, chasing away the night. From her perch she could see out into the valley where the Human refuge lay, surrounded by glorious trees. Although everything looked peaceful now, Sairin Ithildin knew it wouldn't last long.

Sighing and shaking her head, she stood and removied her cape, allowing her wings to flutter open. She lept from the tree and felw graciously to the ground and put her cape back on. She'd heard that a group was gathering at the center of the forest to search out the truth behind the two murders, and she intended to be there.

Drake's wandering path soon took him to the edge of a large forest. Drake loved the forest, and could almost never resist the urge to simply melt into the shadows of the great trees found inside. Drake secured his small travel pack a little more firmly to his side and then picked his pace up to a full run. The trees almost became a blur in his vision as his legs stretched to their full length. He enjoyed pushing himself, and enjoyed the wind on his face from running so fast.

Sairin walked slowly through the forest, alert to every sound around her. Of course she knew this place backwards and forwards, so she felt free to wander around aimless without fear of getting lost. Still, something urged her to take her time.((Sorry, all I have time for right now.))

Enter ... the fledge ...

(( Let's see how this goes, hey? Here's my character:

Khedivo A'Perrin

Here also is the race information for the Fledge race - thank you Darrions for letting me bring them in!

Fact File:~

Fledges - 'Winged Ones'

[[Appearance]]:

[Skin]: Almost all of a fledge's body is covered in a very light layer of soft and waterproof down feathers, which serve mainly to shield the fledge from windchill at high altitudes. A fledge's skin colour varies greatly in accordance with their clan (see 'other'), as a fledge's feathers display the colours distinctive to that clan. Lips, palms and fingertips are most often lighter than the rest of a fledge's skin, and are the only areas completely devoid of feathers.

[Eye colour]: Any and all colours; large and luminescent, able to detect movement and colour at incredible distance.

[Hair]: A fledge does not grow hair as humans or elves know it, instead they grow a peculiar type of feathered crest, wherein the feathers are longer and more distinguished than their wing feathers.

[[Other]]: Fledges belong to large clans, which are distinguishable by their different feather colours. It is not that the wing colour defines the clan, but that the clan genetics determine the colour. When there is a marriage between two fledges of different clans, the male will leave his to join the female's, and all children born of that marriage will bear the mother's clan markings. Fledges are both long-living and monogomous, and marry for life.

[[General]]:

[Languages]: Common (used for both normal conversation and for interactions with the Outerdwellers: the folk who live on the ground); and their own tongue, Dalcarri, more widely known as birdsong for obvious reasons.

[Use of Magic]: Fledges are born with an intrinsic type of magic (similar to the elves), mainly allowing them to manipulate the elements of air and fire directly (and indirectly, water). However, they do not possess the elven ability to communicate mind-to-mind with those of other races, instead they are limited to their own race and the birds of the air.

[General Character/Personality]: Due to their naturally reclusive behavior, Fledges are rarely accepted into ground-level society. They are slow to speak in normal conversation and rarely interact well. They are not so much unlikeable as fierce and unforgiving, sharp eyed and sharp minded. They are energetically loyal to friends and relatives, and incredibly untrusting of 'outsiders' and strangers alike.

[Lifespan]: Males = 1020 - 1500 years; Females = 1020 - 1450 years.

Hope you like it!))

Khedivo muttered to himself in birdsong as he pushed his way through the undergrowth, repeatedly having to disentangle his massive wings from the tangle of tree branches that sought to resist his movement at every step.

"Havadred nevarrell epi nodorr ..." His voice was strangely musical and soft, considering the menacing look that overspread his goldish face - but then, birdsong could make the cruellest curse or rudest oath sound like an elven lullaby. But it was no curse or oath he was muttering, only a long-winded rant about the horrors of ground-based travel. The half-song half-conversation he was holding with himself stopped, however, as Khedivo broke into a clearing, a tiny microclimate where the air was cooler than in the dense and tangled forest, cool enough that a tiny alpine tree sapling had gained a foothold. The mossy ground gave way to long and luscious grass, swirling in a small breeze that had managed to wind its way in through the trees.

Grateful for the chance to stretch his wings a little, the young fledge leapt into the air, gliding to the opposite side of the clearing before settling into the top of a spreading oak. Had he known the reason for the tension echoing through the forest, Khedivo might not have given such a display, but then ... he cared very little for the feelings of outsiders.

Drake decided to finally give his body a rest when the sun was well past it's zenith in the sky. He had just sat down to eat something from out of his pack that he was carrying when he picked up the faintest murmur of voices on the still forest air....."Yes, it has happened." "Well done, the master will be pleased." Drake raised his eyebrow when he heard this, but made no move to get up as he thought that maybe it was just some local woodsmen or lords out hunting. He heard no more voices or sounds after that, and when he finished his meal he climbed up to a low branch of the tree he was leaning on, stretched out, and fell asleep.

((Wow Kookaburra! I love the race! :)))

Ruim crouched low to the ground, and slowly took a step closer to the two men behind the bushes. He'd been traking them for hours; ever since the young elf child's body had been found. He'd only heard their voices, and thought hey sounded downright peculiar.

As he moved in closer, he sensed someone was getting closer to his position. He froze and concentrated. The person coming wasn't an enemy, he knew that much. He closed his eyes, ignoring the voices of the men, and waited. Slowly, a figure began to blurr into focus.

Suddenly, his eyes shot open and he gasped. Sairin! he thought, only then realizing that the men's voices had raised. They were yelling at each other now.

Sairin froze. She could hear raised voices nearby. She listened, but couldn't make out what was being said, so she moved in closer. But as she began to move in, the voices died down. Mentally sighing a frustrated sigh, she silently began to move in some more. The voices had sounded angry, so she knew she'd better stay cautious and alert.

(( I'm glad you like the Fledge, D! ))

Khedivo froze, frowning to himself as he heard voices raised below him. With his rather ungainly wings tangled in the branches about him, the young fledge didn't dare try and extricate himself - to do so would not only alert the speakers to his presence, but might also damage his feathers.

Khedivo was unusually fond of his quills.

" ... it has happened," the one voice was saying. It sounded low in timbre, and slightly rough to Khedivo's ears, a defining trait of human voices.

"Well done, the master will be pleased!" a second replied, lowering his voice.

//Great,// Khedivo thought. //They must be almost directly underneath me by now.// By twisting his neck sideways, he could just barely catch a glimpse of the ground beneath through a small 'hole' in the tree cover. Two shadows lay across that patch of earth - the shadows of the two speakers. Mentally kicking himself, Khedivo slowed his breathing, straining his ears to hear what they were saying.

" ... so what now?"

"We wait."

Ruim listened.
"Yes, it has happened..." one said.
"Well done, the master will be pleased." said the other.
Ruim's eyes squinted. He knew that Sairin was close, and had to force himself to stay still. As much as he wanted to see her, he didn't want to be seen.

Sairin remained still. The men had stopped talking, so she couldn't rely on their voices to drown out her steps. She slowed her breathing and waited.

((sorry, g2g!))

Drake opened his eyes quickly, but did not move a muscle. He could have sworn that he heard raised voices. "Surely they can't still be here," Drake thought. As he listened more closely, he could make out the slow shuffle of feet as they moved back and forth out of boredom in the cool forest leaves. He dropped to the forest floor as quietly as a cat, crouched near the bottom of the tree, and tried to make out more clearly just where the voices had been before. Thinking he had pinpointed the location, he gently eased forward towards them.

Khedivo was rapidly developing a muscle cramp from having lain still so long, his wings still tangled in the tree branches. Sensing that the two speakers were not going to be moving anytime soon, and that his feathers would be better off away from them, he slowly began to flex his wings, feather by feather extricating himself from the web of boughs. Ever so gradually, he was able to pull himself to the top of the tree canopy, and once there, the fledge reassessed his position.

If he took flight, the initial few beats of his wings would most likely bring attention, and he might possibly be brought down with a bowshot (however unlikely). If he remained, he would most likely not be spotted since he was directly overhead and the canopy was dense enough that the speakers would be unable to see through the leaves. Also, Khedivo was becoming very interested in what they were saying. It sounded suspicious, and where trouble went, Khedivo instinctively followed.

He waited.

Ruim slowly took another step and carefully placed it on the ground, making sure that not a sound was heard. The men had gone from nearly yelling, to overly hushed voices and now began to speak in intervals. He couldn't make out what was being said, which only added to his ever increasing frustration. And, normally, he was a very patient person.

Sairin couln't quite hear what was being said, either. Although she was able to make out a few words and syllables, it wasn't enough to piece together any scentences. Feeling very frustrated, Sairin let out a deep sigh. The voices stopped.
"Di' you 'ear tha'?" one asked.
Sairin put her hand over her mouth and silently gasped. Idiot!
"Yeah, I heard it."
Sairin knew she couldn't stay where she was, but also knew she couldn't move, either. Although she hated using magic, she knew she had no other choice. After closing her eyes, Sairin slowly began to mutter words in Elvish; soon, she had completely turned invisible.
