  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, our webcast is the first. It started because of Hurricane Irene, and has progressed to where other locals are trying to copy us. If I'm allowed to put in links, I'll be happy to post last night's, which was hysterical! We have fun and it's educational and everything else.

My background is that I'm an Emergency Manager, but have also studied Meteorology, making me one of the few, if not only, person to have studied both professions.

The only thing I use weather.com for is radar, and depending on the event, I use others that I feel are better.

Anyway, yep, that's the start of my uniqueness. ;)

Ya, I often just go to weather.com for the radar. I have noticed that they can be off quite a bit from the local TV weather guys. But then the local guys have studied our local weather a lot more than who ever puts together the brief blurb on weather.com.

Yep, exactly! I was approached by them when I was in Met school, but seeing how I worked at HSN for 10 yrs, I had NO desire to do TV, and beside, I hate forecasting, and that's 95% of what Mets do, and that's just not me. Now, let me discuss climatology in relation to hurricanes and other weather disasters, I'm all over it.

That reminds me - another "factiod" to add to the intro thread......

How do you feel about the acts of God that are decribed in Revelation? Do you have any thoughts in your knowledge in regards to what the bible says about Earthquakes in divers places and all that? Just curious since you studied about it.

They're going to happen. What I know how to do is help people mitigate against the amount of damage and to hopefully lessen the amount of deaths that take place, and to know how to be prepared for them when they do happen. We can do nothing against acts of God. For me, there isn't anything spiritual about them. They happen; I know how to help people be prepared for them and mitigate for the damage, and how to respond and recover from them when they happen. I am not surprised when I hear of them happening in diverse locations, because I do know that God says they will happen.

Michelle,
How did the new job go this past week?

last night was my first night and tonight is my second. Lots of training by e-learning on the computer and then "Get up and Go" activities where you have to hunt down employees and ask them things. Everyone is super nice, I just hate being new.

So you don't correlate the weather tragedies with the bible predictions at all? interesting. I personally believe God causes them to happen or allows them to happen, because it says when he set up the world he told the sea where it's boundaries were to be and set the moon and the stars in their places.

I said that I know God says they will happen. We're saying the same thing.

Ok well it confused me when you said you didn't think there was anything spiritual about them. So I kinda meant more along the lines of since you know how things work weatherwise, when something happens, do you ever try to figure out what that means in where we are in the grand scheme of things as to getting closer (or not) to the end of the age and Jesus coming back? I mean I love studying about end times, and it talks about different things that will happen like wars, and weather, and I sometimes try to correlate what's happening in world news to the end times. So I was wondering if you ever did that or had any thoughts on it?

I know we're getting closer to the end times, and that's why none of it surprises me when it happens. Others in my profession don't have that same outlook.

That's great to look at it all through end time prophesy and all; as a graduate student, I'm lucky to get through my readings for school. If I were to go into the detail you seem to want, it would steer me away from my studies. I know that God is in control; none of what happens surprises me for a second. That's also why I am able to remain as calm and steady as I do when something does happen. My certainty is in the Lord - period.

Did mean to try to take you away from your studies. Didn't know you were a graduate student. So sorry, I just thought it would be interesting conversation. Good luck with your studies!

Thanks for the warm wishes. I've got 3 incompletes to finish this semester while having not been well for nearly 8 months. There really isn't anything to say about natural disasters other than that nothing surprises me when it happens. If you have specific questions about processes and effects, I'll try to answer them. But, to me, after studying both the atmosphere and earth systems, God created all of these phenoms and they will continue to happen until His return.

I'm finishing my MS and going for my PhD in Emergency Management.

Good Morrow folks...
Yes I've been absent several months...
Summarizing:
Divorce was finally finalized, no more appeals, no more court dates no more...finished...finally on June 9th. I did get my house and custody of my daughter...I did not get child support (I wasn't willing to pay to establish "legal" paternity...in this state whether or not he's on the birth certificate is irrelevant since we weren't married when she was born...go figure) so I'm on my own...and for the most part I'm good with that.

The car has continually broken down...timing chain, water pump, brake system completely failed and the front spring that goes around the strut broke...so that's been a challenge...the irony is...it's not even my car...but I'm getting stuck with all the expenses associated with it since I use it to go back and forth to work....

It was a busy wedding season this year so that helped...
The job I started as a contractor back in March still has me as a contractor despite the promise of hiring on after 6 months...I'm torn between feeling like the mule with a carrot dangling in front of its nose and hopeful that the permanent position (as well as the increased pay that comes with it) may still be in the near future...

Let's see...most of you know that my mother moved in a few years ago...she's decided to stop paying "rent" for her apartment in my basement (2 finished rooms and a bathroom) for some reason expecting that I'll provide for her when she didn't provide for me as a child...but...she's still here...guess doing the right thing isn't always the easiest ....

on the upside my grand-daughters are now 1 and 2...and my older daughter is finally getting her life back on an even keel...of course she did that by going back into the Marine Corps, but hopefully she won't get deployed any time too soon...

Michelle, thank you for caring enough to check on me...it was truly very sweet of you, and encouraging to know I'd made a friend. I apologize for my absence and any concern it may have raised...life's just had me by the tail and swinging for all it's worth these past few months.

Bright Blessings to all :)

Just went to a dinner, that was a good bye to by son. He is heading for Army training and then to Afganistan. Will be gone for 11 months. (sad) But its something he has wanted since the war 1st broke out. I think its a kind of test of his manhood. Can I handle this type thing for him.

He wouldn't be on the front lines, so most likely he will come home with no physical injuries. I will give him a new presecptive on life I'm sure. But its a pretty emotional thing for sure.

Dayhiker...yes, emotional and hard but definitely a new perspective. I will keep him in my prayers...both for his safety and for that perspective. I would like to get his first name, if you're willing, so I can lift him up personally. Thank you and God bless him and you.
