  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I want to know why theres an "If".

Jesus has always shown great leadership. The "if" only makes it seem in that passage he has good leadership, but not great....but then again, I need further explanation for this....

I pondering whether this "if" was based on human weakness? That Jesus knew his disciplies lacked faith?

I take the "if" to be Jesus way of equiping the disciples to deal with opposition to the taking of the donkey. additionally it tells them to take the donkey openly as it is the Lord's due and not something to be taken surreptitiously.
I have a feeling that this takes out the strength, unlike Jesus paying the tax by telling one of his disciples to catch a fix with a coin in it, or making a fig tree wither, or healing.....

I would be a lot more comfortable if Jesus had said, "a man will ask you" rather than "if a man asks you"....

But then again, the "if" makes Jesus sound more understanding and human.....

Hi there

Perhaps, if you read it as Jesus saying....

And should ... instead of "if"...

unlike Jesus paying the tax by telling one of his disciples to catch a fix with a coin
Perhaps, you missed the point in paying the tax? The tax was identifeed as a fee relative to atonement. Did Christ need to pay a tax? no. Did he need to pay the tax under Roman law? No, one had to be a resident for a year (in Capernaum) to pay the tax? Jesus's statement is that he IS the Son of God and exempt from the tax...

What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

But he also told Peter to pay the tax simply to keep from offending them... why? Because His time had not yet come for that declaration...

thats not my point...............

the "if" statement, was not about what the if did to the actions, but rather the authority of Jesus over events.
to comfort the disciple that got the donkey ....

to fulfill the prohecy in the old covenant
Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he [is] just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ***, and upon a colt the foal of an ***.

Mat 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ***, and a colt the foal of an ***.
