  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So our God is an angry one that makes us be perfect? Sorry folks, but that's not what the Bible teaches: Get out of the religious ruts of the pharisees and get into a relationship with Jesus.
I stand by what I posted. I'm sure neither of you will disagree with it, or I'd hope not. But condemning masturbation when it is not condemned in the Bible does count as a religious rut.

What does Matthew 5 have to do with fantasy?

Matthew 5: 27,28

27"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Looking lustfully, aka fantasy.

Aren't you guys debating the nature of masturbation itself? Whether or not it always requires a specific person to fantasize about? We've been over that ground pages ago in this thread, starting page 5.

As far as I can tell he actually thinks it's okay to fantasize about a harem...

The verse in Matthew you're referring to is about looking at a specific woman with the specific intention of committing adultery in one's mind. There were pages of discussion about that earlier with some very good references from the greek, comparing different translations of the Bible.

As always, the word that seems to be tripping things up is "lust", which in the Greek is a completely innocuous word with no evil intentions associated with it. It simply means to want something badly, whether good or bad.

Not at a specific woman, at a specific woman who is not your wife.

Can you not see the danger in being able to summon up the women of your dreams at any point?

That is not what the Greek means, however, and therefore that verse does not talk about fantasy. Do you know what coveting is?

Coveting: envy, wanting something that in not yours

If the Greek means coveting, I fail to see how that is any different.

David, your best decision would be to stop arguing with these guys. They believe that lust is only a sin if you are purposing in your mind to commit physical adultery. They don't believe that the lust talked about in Matthew means to guard your mind.

You either disagree with them, and you can leave this thread, or you will be won over to their side. Be wary.

You are the one who has got it wrong. That verse is probably one of the most misunderstood ones in the NT. That verse, properly understood, requires an actual intent given opportunity. It has nothing at all to do with general sexual fantasy constituting lustful thoughts.

Not only that but the use of the word 'adultery' clearly confines its application to a married relationship, and in the context of the issues Jesus was teaching about in that whole section known as the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was referring to a common practice amongst one of the Pharisaical schools at the time, who sanctioned very easy divorce.

The most common teaching on that verse reflects just how 'demonised' human sexuality has become within some Christian circles. Unfortunately that causes a lot of unnecessary angst by far too many Christians as they struggle with their developed sexuality.
