  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is the topic so ignored in the Christian community? I’m 16 months celibate and I plan to stay pure until marriage. Kind of failed at first but I was never thought the importance of your temple and keeping your self pure sexually.

Masturbation, Is it a sin? I heard of some Christians who think it’s a sin because they that person is lusting. What if they are not lusting after a man/woman? What if they just do it to relieve tension/stress?

As Christians we know our flesh has a mind of its own. Since having a sexual nature is something God has blessed us with is it wrong to experience it on your own without impure thoughts? If you think it’s wrong, give me scripture please, and tell me why?

I really don't think anyone can REALLY say it is wrong. I have not seen any scriptural refrence to say it is (and I have looked several times, but if I'm wrong, someone please say so). I think it is mostly the fact that some people use images to touch i.e: fantasies about men/women and having sex with them, and use those images to get aroused and reach [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. Lusting after others, and having sexual images about them, is considered a sin.

Several people on this forum have brought up the question about fantasizing about their spouses while masturbating, and if that's a sin. Now that is something I definitely am not sure of, but my guess is if you are in a loving, committed marriage, you wouldn't need masturbation. :) But, that's just me.

Does that make any sense? I sometimes tend to ramble on. :)

First off, I don't think it's exactly ignored... I was at a conference that had a small bookstore set up. There were about 7 tables set up and one of them was devoted to sex, romance, marriage, etc. I bought Every Young Woman's Battle there.

One of the things that book pounds into your brain is that purity is more than physical. It's physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Some people think masturbation will have curb their desires but it just exacerbates them. Masturbation makes you feel dirty and you know you've done something wrong.
There's also a selfish side to masturbation. It's like saying to God, "I don't need you or a future husband!" Not that's our intention when we do it but actions speak louder than words, as they say...

I dont know anywhere in scripture that says touching yourself is wrong, but i know that lusting after someone is and if you can touch without thinking about someone in a lustful way then theres nothing wrong with it.

I cant do this as im not a strong enough person but if you can then go for it.

The subject is not ignored, but it's not something that should be brought up in polite conversation, and Christians usually try to be polite. I think it's best for a Christian to surrender their mind and flesh to the Lord. And pardon my if I refuse to shake your hand...

If CF is any judge, it's definitely not ignored by the Christian community!

My advice, try to do what's right, but don't be so caught up in the struggle that you either feel so much guilt that you don't keep a dialogue with God or that you cease to pray or to do what you think God wants you to while here on Earth.

I used to think that I had to be perfect before I could be an instrument of God, but I realize now that we are all clay vessels, imperfect and short lived, and time is a wastin'.

This subject has not been ignored in the Christian community in these or many other forums I visit. It has been debated and argued again and again and again and again and again. We really don't need another thread on the subject.

Don't fight it. "Just Do It"
There is no record saying that it's a sin. And you know why it's not discussed in the bible is because everyone would have to admit doing it.

If you think too much about it, it won't feel as good.

In the old days when latin was spoken it was referred to as manu stuprare ("to defile with the hand"). Hence why it is thought as taboo.

But really, God knows what goes on everyones closet or bedrooms.

Kick back and relax.  :D

Guard your thoughts ...

Jesus said this:

Matthew 5:27-30
27 "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'
28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Sigh. Brothers and sisters, Christians are to refrain from earthly desires so that we do not fall into temptation. That is painfully clear in the Bible, as it states to flee from temptation. If you are serving your fleshly desires then you cannot be serving the Lord at the same time, thus His will must be our will. The Bible also makes it painfully clear that we are to be in the world, not of it. Remember, it's the spirit of the Law. God Bless!

I was reading thru all these seeing if anyone was going to respond with what you responded with. Good job.

The matter isn't masturbation, it's the heart.

Hmm...I don't think that I ever heard a sermon or seen one about masturbation. Now I seen or heard one about homosexuality. Of course there is going to be small groups about masturbation or the secret Sex Addicted Anonymous meetings. I never had a Christian friend or meet Christians who were open about this topic. The internet doesn’t count. Anyone can be open through the internet.

I have heard a sermon that were all grouped into one including this one, people keep saying where in the bible does it say i CAN'T but I have another question where in the bible does it say you can. Honestly think about it would God actually make that ok I feel as if no it wouldn't be okay to do this where in the bible does it say we can? It's defiling the temple in which God is suppose to live in:)

you crazy kids!!

If someone found out about it, and it shamed you, chances are it is a sin.

come on now. The only reason they should be ashamed of someone seeing it is because it's a very private thing.

If a child saw their parents having sex, and the child was ashamed at seeing it, does that make sex a sin?

The only reason we disagree is because people who think it's icky, label it a sin. There are some people that think that sex is icky, and it's because God made it very private.

I have know a few people that have fallen away from Christ because people keep saying that it's a sin to mastrubate, but for men, it's almost a need.

I'm surprised that people don't think that poopooing is a sin too, since it's pretty icky too.

What really matters is in the heart, like others said, you should not lust at other and such, but lets not get legalistic here by saying the physical act is sinful.
