  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If no one is getting hurt, I don't see something as being wrong.


And while you can look at someone and appreciate their beauty, that's a far cry from attraction. I think lust is a normal and necessary part of a good relationship - not being aroused by your partner doesn't bode well for when you start sleeping together, usually.

and I know there are people who say that it's something that needs to be done for such and such...
ok...well and good...BUT
what are you thinking about??
are the thoughts whilst you're masturbating wrong??
it's not the act itself....it's the motivation behind the act that makes it all wrong..

It is wrong to consider masturbationa as a single issue. It can arise from simple curiosity, sexual abuse, sexual activity, of deep inner pain. Each needs working through separately before a person is free from some of the underlying pressures. And. most importantly, stopping masturbatoin does not turmn off the sex drive. Any person wanting to stop masturbating must have somne clear strategies and values already in place for coping with their God given sex drive.

Out of curiosity, a question for the anti-masturbation Christians: if lustful thoughts are what you see as a problem, does it have to be lusting after a specific person, or just sexual thoughts in general?

All these texts warn us against lusting and yes it is harmful to the mind to lust.


Because Scripture doesn't specifically name the act of masturbation, debate has erupted amongst Christians with endless opinions on the issue.
Masturbation isn't a filthy habit that makes people dirty. It only reveals the dirt that's already in our hearts. It's an indicator that we're feeding the wrong desires.
For most peolple the act is impossible to separate from lust in the heart.
Even if it were possible to touch without lust, I think a lifestyle of masturbation is based on a wrong understanding of God's plan for sex.
Masturbation is built on a self-centred view of sex. It is solely about you and your pleasure.
God has given us marriage not merely as a concession but a provision for our sexual desires.
