No, the will appears to be caused only by itself. When I will something, there is every feeling of "I chose something". Now, that is not to say that it automatically equivilates to there being free will, but it leads me to believe that there may be source of will seperate from the brain. Because the brain operates in manners that are physical (includes thinking processes, and even memory), the will has a difficult time working with that which is altered. Therefore, the will is dependant on the brain (or any type of memory storage) for functioning. The will is existentialy independant of the brain, but the brain does influence the will greatly.ObbiQuiet said:But this conciousness, this "you," can be destroyed or altered by physical means. This "you" can be totally turned off for a time - all from a physical cause.
It seems physical.
What is to prove that there must be a perfect? This reasoning was made by an ancient Greek philosopher named Xenophanes. He argued that there must exist a perfect in all of infinity. An ever greater than value. He called this perfect, God. There are a few problems, though, and they are these:bloodofthelamb12 said:-and to "foolsparade,"
Friend, it appears that while you are intelligent, you've missed something that is blatantly obvious to billions of people the world over. There is a god. Simple human reasoning demands a god. There's no grounds to reason the non-existence of God. I'm going to use one form of reasoning for God, cuz I'm sort of in a hurry, and I'll continue later...
1. God is by definition the most perfect being imaginable.
2. The most perfect being imaginable cannot by its nature lack any 'good' thing
3. Happiness is a 'good' thing; thus, it possesses supreme happiness.
4. Its existence would also thus be a 'good' thing
5. Therefore, the most perfect imaginable being cannot lack existence.
All that and I haven't even touched Causality, yet. C ya.
