  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mass extinctions may be a myth, claim scientists

From the article, Mass Extinctions May Be A Myth, Claim Scientists, which might have been entitled, Scientists get one step closer to the truth

"During the Cretaceous period (146 to 65 million years ago), dominated by dinosaurs, there were periods of intense global warming which saw dramatic rises in sea levels so severe that the oceans flooded Europe, turning it into an archipelago of little islands. This forced shallow marine species and land animals to migrate from their usual habitats.

"Once the sea level dropped again these species migrated back with it, and the fossil record laid down in sedimentary rock during those periods of high sea level was largely destroyed over time by wind, rain and glacial erosion," continued Professor Gale.

"The interruption in the fossil record during these periods was caused by species migration and the loss of the fossil record of that migration, and not by a mass extinction."

Evidence of these "pseudoextinctions" can be seen in the fossil record...

So the fossil record might actually be the result of a flood? What a fascinating idea.

Well, technically?
No, that isn't what the article says. It says that the appearance of mass extinctions in certain geographical areas may not have been the result of actual mass extinction (as would be caused in a GLOBAL flood), but rather, they may have been "pseudo-extinctions" that were caused by erosion after a catastrophic rise in sea level. Note that the appearance of mass extinctions is inferred from the absence of fossils - not the presence of them.

Um, no, I think it said exactly the opposite:

the fossil record laid down in sedimentary rock during those periods of high sea level was largely destroyed over time by wind, rain and glacial erosion
