Hi HowardDean,I just got to thinking and wondered, did Mary have any brothers and sisters?
Hi HowardDean,

Here is your answer to this...
John 19:25 (New King James Version)
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mothers sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
HER NAME WAS SALOME!

Uphill Battle said:unless of course, we now see the claim that the sister of Mary is like the sisters of Christ... not really sisters.
Her name wasn't Mary it was Salome! Mary wife of clopas was another person present.Early church tradition holds that this was Mary's sister through marriage, with Clopas as a brother of Joseph and this Mary as the former's wife.
Wouldn't make much sense to name two of your children Mary, would it?
This doesn't jive the term in-law is used dozens if not hundreds of times for brothers mothers sister and daughters throughout the old and new testament.Early church tradition holds that this was Mary's sister through marriage, with Clopas as a brother of Joseph and this Mary as the former's wife.
.
I think there is a debate going on here if there was 3, or 4 people mentioned in that verse.Early church tradition holds that this was Mary's sister through marriage, with Clopas as a brother of Joseph and this Mary as the former's wife.

Which could also be the case, given the Greek adelphoi.

Compared to Mark 15:John 19:25 (New King James Version)
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus 1.)His mother, and 2.)His mothers sister, 3.)Mary the wife of Clopas, and 4.)Mary Magdalene.
Compared to Mark 15:
40Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were 4.)Mary Magdalene, 3.)Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and 2.) Salome.
So including 1.)Mary, Christ mother that'd be 4.
Did you read through the thread?So...
Mary was the only child of Joachim and Anna.
Peace,
Jack
Salome, the mother of James and John, is one of Joseph's daughters. It is one of the reasons she has the boldness to ask of Christ (her little step brother) that her sons be given the places at His left and right hand in His kingdom.Salome was the mother of James and Joses, wife of Zebedee and sister to Mary mother of Christ.
