  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi oblio

If that is so, please explain why the Orthodox Church (and Anglicans, and Lutherans, and the Reformers ...) believes that the Theotokos was Ever Virgin and Joseph was indeed an older guardian of her ?

From the Catholic Encyclopedia

Strictly speaking, the present schism dates from the Eastern repudiation of the Council of Florence (in 1472). So although the names of Photius and Caerularius are justly associated with this disaster, inasmuch as their quarrels are the chief elements in the story, it must not be imagined that they were the sole, the first, or the last authors of the schism. If we group the story around their names we must explain the earlier causes that prepared for them, and note that there were temporary reunions later.

Lutherans

The term Lutheran was first used by his opponents during the Leipzig Disputation in 1519, and afterwards became universally prevalent. Luther preferred the designation "Evangelical", and today the usual title of the sect is "Evangelical Lutheran Church". In Germany, where the Lutherans and the Reformed have united (since 1817), the name Lutheran has been abandoned, and the state Church is styled the Evangelical or the Evangelical United.

Anglicanism
A term used to denote the religious belief and position of members of the established Church of England, and of the communicating churches in the British possessions, the United States (see EPISCOPAL CHURCH), and elsewhere. It includes those who have accepted the work of the English Reformation as embodied in the Church of England or in the offshoot Churches which in other countries have adhered, at least substantially, to its doctrines, its organization, and its liturgy. Apart from minor or missionary settlements, the area in which Anglicanism is to be found corresponds roughly with those portions of the globe which are, or were formally, under the British flag.

They got it from your traditions, Each of these groups took varying degrees of Catholic traditions and teachings with them when they split from the Church, There is no Biblical support what so ever for your claims or your traditions, In fact it is well known that tampering and outright forgery was practiced by the Catholic church concerning documents and letters of the early church fathers to promote her views and doctrines,

Not hardly the manner in which the Apostles handled the Gospel,

2co 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

2co 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

If mary was without sin, then why on earth did Jesus have to die for our sin? I believe Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, no one else, He was without sin, no one else...

Jesus was also God,not only a sinless person. Mary is sinless but she is not God.

This is why she couldn't die on the cross for our sins.

Do you belief that Jesus is God?

Mary gave birth to Jesus who is both God and Man. Are you saying that Jesus is not God?

God became flesh. But, God is not the flesh. Peter even admonished that we are no longer to know Jesus as he was. We are not to know him after the flesh as he was.

2 Corinthians 5:16 niv
"Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more."

For Christ has a new body! A glorified body. A body not of the earth, but a body of Heaven!

1 Corinthians 15:38-40 niv
"But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another."

Jesus now has a glorified body of Heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:47
"The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven."

The body Jesus now possesses is higher than angels bodies. What Mary gave birth to was a body of this earth. That body was to die in our place. The body Jesus now has, was transformed into a body of our home, Heaven. She is not the mother of the body he now possess. That is why it says....

2 Corinthians 5:16 niv
"Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more."

We are to see others according to the new man we are to become in the resurrection. We are not even to see them any longer after the flesh.

God has given us both annointed men and women when the Church needed reform. Yet none of them argued against It's authority. These men and women who reformed the Church as called Saints. Which Luther, zilwig, calvin ect.. are not. Now if you want to think for your self then I challange you to read about St. Francis of assissi, St Catherine, St Teresa, St ignatious of loyola, St Faustina, Mother Terersa and how they reformed the Church.

You do not understand. I do not see your church as the authority on what a church should be. You keep assuming I should. Its not. Its foundational precepts are just too far out of line with what the Word of God tells us.

Matthew 23:9 niv
" And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven."

This is gnosticism and heresy. Jesus is has two natures. A human nature and a devine nature both in Hypostatic union. He is God in the Flesh.

What you just posted is a take on gnosticism where all matter is seen as evil and all things spiritual as good. I have seen this neo-gnostic heresy before. It states that the Spirit is Good and the flesh is evil.

Jesus after He was Ressurected walked with the diciples on the road to emmaus on his feet. He also ate and had the apostles thomas touch his side.

I never presented those people to show the Authority of the Church. I presented them so you could see how they reformed the Church. Oh my. A botner student. Well let's see before the Church split all believed that Mary is sinless and was also a virgin. The Catholic Church has the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. The Eoc although having no such Dogma or Doctrine, traidionaly say that She was w/o sin. Her virginity was never in disptute between the EOC and the CC and was agreed by the CHurch before the Schism. I do not see the point of your quotes. They do not adress the issue. You have claimed that the CC has forged documents. Do this documents pertain to Mary??? This is your argument and it is up to you to provide the evidence.

You miss the point because of your bigotry. It is because of his diplomas and degrees that he should know how to do honest research and then publish it. He is also held to a higher standard then people with out one. His list is a list of fiction that he came up with and certaily not by doing honest research. Have you read the sticky on OBOB about his list?? He is an academic man and should behave like one. His book is a diatribe

I looked at parts of it and this rebuttal does not really look that solid, If I felt like wading through three pages of posts that seem more to try to actually downplay the list than really prove it complely wrong I could show that this rebuttal is more of cover up for the misconduct of the church than an exoneration of the church,

Kind of like a Johnny Cochrane defense for OJ Simposon, Found not guilty by confusing the facts but never really convinced anybody that he was innocent of wrong doing,

Hi Lionsroar0

You miss the point because of your bigotry

I was born a Greek Byzantine Catholic and was raised by my Grandmother who was extremely devoted to the church. She used to make me study the bible from the very first time I could even read,

The Bible is one of the first books I ever read cover to cover, And I am a very good reader, always have been, By the time I was ten years old I already knew that there were very serious differences in what the bible taught and what the church taught,

Every time I asked a question about something the answer was the church is the final authority on doctrinal questions, and that was that, The church can not be wrong,

Why do we kneel to idols when the bible says, because the church said so, why do we call the preist father when the bible says , because the church said so, why is the preist not married when the bible says, Because the church said so, Why do pray to mary when the bible says, Because the church said so.

The church is not God and the church that God appointed is supposed to guard and uphold the teachings of his holy word, Not tear them down and replace them with something else,

I have no idea why you brought gnosticism into this. It does not correlate at all. They denied he had a real body. I never said any such thing.

Mary Mother of God pray for us!!!!!!

God wants you to do your own praying. He is our Father. You are to act as a son to Him.

Where does it teach we are to pray to Mary in the Bible? Or, to ask Mary to pray for us? That was a creation of Catholicism. Its not to be found in the Bible.

Yes His flesh did die and it was also ressurected. His ressurected Body is in heaven. It was this Body that Thomas touched and it was this Body that ate and drank with the Apostles. It is the same Body that ascended into heaven. We were healed by His stripes. We can ask all those with in the BOdy of Christ to pray for us. Isn't His Body both on earth and in heaven? Why do you make such disctincsions? Where there is none

Yes I am His Son and Mary is my Mother. Honor your Father and your Mother

Where does it say that His body was transformed into a heavenly body when He ascended?

The OP is about Mary. You said that the CC had forged documents. What do this documents have to do with Mary???? As far as boetnerr he is not a valid source. Not because he doed not agree with our "traidions". IT's because he made a straw man and then went on to built up an argument on it and even published a whole book. As an academic he knows better. Hi all

It is well known that the Scripture uses types, Moses was a type of messiah etc, Solomon was messiah type, He was bleesed with great wisdom and his reign was marked as the pinnacle of prosperity and enlightenment in Judea

1KI 2:12 Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father--His ascension to the royal dignity was made under the happiest auspices. Having been born after his father became monarch of the whole kingdom, his claim, according to the notions of Oriental people, was preferable to that of all, even his elder brothers. The Hebrew kingdom enjoyed internal prosperity; it was respected and renowned abroad, and Solomon well knew how to improve these advantages. Jameison, Faussett, Brown

1ki 2:16 And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on.

1ki 2:17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, (for he will not say thee nay,) that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

1ki 2:18 And Bathsheba said, Well; I will speak for thee unto the king.

1ki 2:19 Bathsheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.

1ki 2:20 Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.

1ki 2:21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

1ki 2:22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

1ki 2:23 Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

1ki 2:24 Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

We see Adonijah, rather than approach his brother Solomon himself, tried to use their mother to be the intermediary to speak to the King for him to gain what he desired, Instead of gaining the Kings favor, He lost it and his life also,

Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Joh 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

We know that Jesus is the only door and Hebrews instructs us that we ourselves are to come into the presence of the lord with our prayers, There is nothing in the scripture that says we should send his mother,

yours in Christ

Where does it say that His body was transformed into a heavenly body when He ascended?

This is what the Bible tells us......

Philippians 3:21 niv
"who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."

He did not have a glorious body when he died for our sins. It was free of the sin nature, but it was never glorious.

Isaiah 53:2 niv
"He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."

His body on earth was normal in appearance. Nothing glorious.

Our bodies will be transformed if we are alive for the rapture. This will happen when we ascend to be with the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:52
"in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed."

We will be changed! Changed to a glorious body just like his own.

Philippians 3:21a niv
" will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."

Our new bodies will not be able to die! Neither can the body of Christ's. The body he did have was able to die. The new body will be imperishable.

Christ came as a man of this earth. Now he is the man of Heaven. His old body was made up of the elements of the earth, just like our own. His body was as our substitute on the cross. He no longer has to die in our place. He no longer has to be a body of this earth. His body is now of where his home is. Heaven!

1 Corinthians 15:39-40 niv
"All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another."

Jesus came as a man of earth. He finished his work. He is now the new man of Heaven! His body is now of the splendor of Heaven!

1 Corinthians 15:46-48 niv
"The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

The first man was of the dust of the earth,

..........the second man from heaven.

As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven."

I realize that this is not taught very often. But, its what the Bible indicates in various areas. Jesus is now at home in Heaven. His body is of his home.

Just as our home is now earth, and our body is made up of the dust of the earth. When we enter Heaven, our bodies will be bodies no longer of this earth. Jesus now has a glorious Heavenly body. One like we shall receive in the resurrection. The new body will be incapable of dying. Even though Jesus had a perfect body of this earth, it was still capable of dying.

We are not of this earth once we believe in Christ! We will become what is promised.

Philippians 3:20 niv
"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ."

The Lord is now from Heaven. No longer of this earth. He has a Heavenly body. When it was transformed? I can not say with certainty. But as when we are raptured, we will be transformed. I believe when Jesus ascended, it was during that ascension that his body transformed to a Heavenly body, as he entered Heaven!

1 Corinthians 15:47-49 niv
"The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.

As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.

And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven."

Do you see it now? :priest:

The Word of God does not always spell things out for us in simple black and white statements!

Philippians 1:9 niv
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight."

The Word of God gives us peeks at different parts of the picture. And, by God's grace he puts it all together to give us a bigger picture right before the eyes of our heart!

Ephesians 1:18 niv
"I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints."

I wish you God's love, GeneZ
