  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mary was chosen to be the mother of Christ. She was a normal woman.

Being chosen by God to give birth to His son, makes her blessed among women.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. Luke 1:46-48

Then perhaps, YOU shouldn't be posting, because its YOU who made the statenments toward Catholics, that were responded to.

Jim
In response to unfavorable remarks towards Protestants- who are supposed to suffer in silence, presumably.

Personal remarks are something quite, quite different.

I have not see any unfavorable remarks towards Protestants, and I myself have not made any.

The only uncharitable remarks that I've seen in this thread, come from you.

Post like, "nonsense."

The word 'blessed' implies no degree of worthiness, either in the terms of the Bible, or in ordinary sense.

Then why is Mary's words, "from this day, all generations will call me "blessed,' included in Scripture, if it so irrelevant as you suggest ?

I don't think it takes much reasoning to see that Mary being chosen by God, to be the mother of Jesus Christ, as something beyond what any other women would ever experience.

Also, Jesus, perfectly observed the 4th Commandment, to honor mother and father, and so, he perfectly honors Mary, and we merely imitate Jesus in honoring her as well.

It's reference to the recognised greatness of Jesus, not Mary.

Also, Jesus, perfectly observed the 4th Commandment, to honor mother and father, and so, he perfectly honors Mary, and we merely imitate Jesus in honoring her as well.
Then one honors one's own mother!

Prove it.

Write just one sentence that can be proved true.

Its not possible to prove a negative.

It is you who have said that unfavorable statements have been made toward Protestants in this thread. It is therefore your obligation to prove that your statement is true.

The purpose of this thread is to question the Catholic Dogma of Mary being sinless. Catholics have answered why we believe this. You have attacked those answers, which merely shows that you have no interest in understanding what Catholics believe.

Fine. Its not my purpose to make you believe Catholic dogma, but merely to explain it.

It is. It is possible to prove that one is not lying.

But the burden of proof is on the one who calls a person a liar. A person is innocent until proven guilty.

You made the accusation that unfavorable statements were made towards Protestants in this thread. The burden of proof is on you.

Nobody's done that.

I didn't say they did.

But you said;

It is. It is possible to prove that one is not lying.

and this is what I was referring to.

You are merely twisting words in order to change the subject. I understand. :D

Gen 3:15 prophesizes the Immaculate Conception of Mary so she may give birth to Our Lord.

Luke 1:28 gives reference to the grace God has bestowed on her by freeing her from the stain of Original Sin at her Immaculate Conception when the Angel Gabriel greets her "Hail Mary, Full of Grace"

Gen 3:15 does not contain the words 'Immaculate Conception' or 'Mary', so please explain.

Luke 1:28 gives reference to the grace God has bestowed on her by freeing her from the stain of Original Sin at her Immaculate Conception when the Angel Gabriel greets her "Hail Mary, Full of Grace"
The Roman Catholic Bible I have here has this:

'"Rejoice, you who enjoy God's favor!"' Luke 1:28 New Jerusalem Bible

It's very difficult to know how one works out that Mary was sinless from that.

Luke 1:28 says ... And coming to her he said, "Hail Mary full of grace! The Lord is with you."

If you look at the Greek translation, they translate it Kecharitomene, which basically means to fill with grace. This word was rarely used in the Bible. The perfect present participle was also used which moves Catholics to believe that the grace extended from the moment of conception to her death.
This is truly a mystery of the Catholic Church. We as Catholics are able to understand this because God has opened our eyes to this through prayer. If you refuse to believe then God has to help you to understand. Why not try praying and meditating on this. Put aside your bias, and just ask God to show you the truth. It wouldn't hurt.

Is that what your priest told you?

Don't let any other poster give you the impression you don't need to answer.
