I wonder what other books were on there..
You can find the banned books lists right online.

They're not banned now though.
At least I don't think the Bible is
on the list any longer.

It was at one time.
Bible was banned.

That's nothing,
there was a time you
were killed for having
a Bible, by the
same group of people
I believe.

They forbid this to keep thier power.. This is what it was all about.. If a translation came out that showed the error of the traditions of the church and what they deemed to be right they were called heretics and sought out.. Wycliff being one of them.. They not only killed him but dug up his bones and burned them again at a later time..

What?! Why bull? It happened, you don't have to like it, but it happened in Washington, DC. If you're calling me a liar, I'd appreciate an apology.
It was never banned as condemn reading.

if you are going to present something- do it right, with honesty and integrity and not slander and spin.

let's get this straight... reading the bible in order to self interpret it is what was and still is discouraged, never the bible itself.

the Catholic Church is who canonized the bible, the Church hardly condemns it. She discourages ppl from reading it for the purpose of interpret it for themselves.

Why? becuase that can and has led to insane error. All anyone has to do is browse through CF and that is proven and apparent.

Self interpreting the bible leads many right into error and their arrogance and pride keeps them in error.

Why? because they think it's their right to read and discern for themselves what truth is.

The fact that anyone would be scandalized by the Church discouraging ppl from doing this in order to protect them from error, tells us this.

You are looking at this from the perspective that Protestants are right and from the view that sola scripture was always around.

It did not hit the seine until Luther. No one prior to Luther even heard of such nonsense, that we ARE to read the bible and be our own pope making doctrines and dogmas.

As if we have some inherit right to read the bible and choose for ourselves what is divine truth.

The Church's job was and is still to teach us the truth and keep us from error.

All the Church did in those days was her job.

The Church today still discourages ppl from reading the bible out of context trying to make themselves boss and deiced what is truth and what isn't.

So instead of presenting one small tid bit- give the whole picture least you make yourself look dishonest.

I presented what I know to be a fact. Your discourse on the reason for it doesn't distract from it being true. It simply reinforces my statement and shows that it is indeed correct. I know an apology will not be coming from you, but your acknowledgement of my statement as factual will have to suffice.

btw, I never said it was
banned as condemn reading.
I said it was on a list of books that my friend shouldn't read and that list was given to her by a priest at her church.

COUNCIL OF TOULOUSE - 1229 A.D.
The Council of Toulouse, which met in November of 1229, about the time of the crusade against the Albigensians, set up a special ecclesiastical tribunal, or court, known as the Inquisition (Lat. inquisitio, an inquiry), to search out and try heretics. Twenty of the forty-five articles decreed by the Council dealt with heretics and heresy. It ruled in part:

Canon 14. We prohibit also that the laity should be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; unless anyone from motive of devotion should wish to have the Psalter or the Breviary for divine offices or the hours of the blessed Virgin; but we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.

short version: The RCC discourages reading the bible and coming to any other conclusion than what RCC says it means.

Meanwhile... back in the east.

The Orthodox Churches were translating the scriptures so that people could read them in their native language.

Forgive me...

At the ecumenical Council of Constance, in 1415, Wycliffe was posthumously condemned by Arundel, the archbishop of Canterbury, as "that pestilent wretch of damnable heresy who invented a new translation of the scriptures in his mother tongue." By the decree of the Council, more that 40 years after his death, Wycliffe's bones were exhumed and publicly burned and the ashes were thrown into the Swift river.

wow, I am shocked...that is amazing to me...well, I am thankful I am a Nazerene...where I can read the Word myself...I don't even know what to say.
Maybe that Wycliffe was a heretic so he was put to death but the government, was only tried by the Church.

Which wasn't a big deal since in those days hersey was seen as a crime punishable by death.

The reformers burned ppl too, so the Church is not the lone ranger here.

And JP2 made a universal apology for any part the Church had in any of those cases. They weren't called the Dark Ages for nothing, Melody.

Interesting stuff here from a Non Catholic site.

We can all sling mud and spin and distort.

The Protestant Reformers Were Frauds

Point is, he who is with out sin may throw the first stone. I don't kow how you all don't feel convicted for the stones you throw at the Catholic Church.
