  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I have lots of other interests as well...just thought I'd post this for fun :D
As was i. My “boring” interest in history drives the mrs nuts at times. Funny thing, she’d come nearer picking an action movie than me.

DC all the way. Been a Superman fan since George Reeves was on TV.

Favorite characters:

Superman (and relatives)
Batman
Green Lantern

I was only 4 when Reeves died. It was a shock that anyone could kill Superman ......
The video was 2 years before I was born.

BTW - I did read some Marvel back in the day. (but not regularly) I read Fantastic 4 and some X men. Cyclops was the only one of them I liked.

But Marvel put out "Not Brand Echh Comics" which lampooned both DC and Marvel characters and brought them all together. It was hilarious.

Since the forums are being nasty and not allowing images, you can see the covers of some of those comics here:

Ya think anyone would make a movie from THAT Marvel comic?????

Being a Silver Age kid, mostly Marvel characters.

Most of the DC stars tended to bore me--'way too vanilla with silly "problems." Like Superman's only real problem was choosing which woman to date. Batman by that time had gotten too silly and campy: Bat-Mite? Really? DC was really kind of goofy overall during the 60s, and lacked diversity.

DC did have some "non stars" that I followed, such as the Challengers of the Unknown and Blackhawk. I also followed some third-choice magazine company characters like Magnus: Robot Fighter and Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom.

Marvel had more interesting characters. They also got into diversity early and with fewer missteps and more genuineness than DC. DC had some really horrible racist missteps deep into the 60s and into the 70s.

Also, the Marvel writers and artists started doing something novel: They blogged. Or rather, what we would call blogging today. They used the last page of the issues to talk about themselves, what they were doing, and connect with readers. The developed a "deep" fandom. So 'way back in the 60s, we felt we knew who Lee, Kirby, Ditke, et cetera, were as people. When Stan Lee began making television appearances, he was exactly as I'd pictured him in the 60s.

In terms of movies, while I readily acknowledge the superiority of what Marvel has done, I really have to count Wonder Woman as my favorite.

Current live action movies wise - MCU is (Justice) leagues better than the DCEU (or DC Other Worlds or whatever they're calling it). So far, it's not even close outside of one win with Wonder Woman.

Cartoon wise (movies, shows) - DC is on the whole beating Marvel by a landslide. While Marvel has had great shows like Spiderman the Animated Series, X-Men The Animated Series, and Spectacular Spiderman - DC has given a predecessor to the MCU in the DCAU which ran from Batman the Animated Series through Superman the Animated Series through Batman Beyond through Static Shock and culminating in Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, all of which (especially Batman, Supes, Beyond, and Justice League) were amazing, and add in Young Justice (GREAT show). Heck, with Batman and JL those characters portrayals and voice performances (looking at you Mark Hamills Joker and Kevin Conroy's Batman) are what people compare to. That's not a knock on X-Men, Spidey, or Spectacular - those shows were fantastic as well. But Marvels shows had more misfires than successes. Animated movie wise, it's not even a discussion. Great ones to check out: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman: Under The Red Hood, Batman: Bad Blood, Batman: The Killing Joke, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Wonder Woman, Justice League: Doom, Justice League: Crisis on Two-Earths, and Justice League: War.

Comic's wise - it's both. Both companies have an excellent roster of crazy interesting characters. With Marvel, I really enjoy Deadpool, Spiderman, Spiderman 2099, Moon Knight, X-Men (especially the classic Chris Claremont run and Rick Remenders run on Uncanny X-Force), Union Jack, Scarlett Spider, Agent Venom, Captian America, and Spider-Gwen just to name a few. With DC, I love me some Batman, Superman, Geoff Johns run on Green Lantern, Flash, and especially Aquaman was *fantastic*, Justice League, Nightwing, and the pre-New 52 Red Robin run.

While I'm talking comics, gotta recommend both Boom Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both are some of my favourite ongoing titles in comics right now.

Good topic..
I haven't liked many of the comic book inspired movies tho.. but I did like the Michael Keaton' Batman.
In print, I always liked The Thing' solo series, Captain America, Daredevil, Superman, & She-Hulk.. And DC had a cool Elvira series back in the mid-late 80s (House of Mystery).

TV- I liked the Bill Bixby' Hulk, and the old Superfriends cartoon (w/ Superman, Aquaman, Lex Luthor, etc). I guess Marvel vs DC would be a draw/push for my taste.
