Plenty of swords and sabers! It is a martial art but many practice Tai Chi without anything like sparring or any sort of contact or speed, which are martial elements.

Tai Chi sword forms are really amazing. I have seen a few vids on YouTube.Plenty of swords and sabers!
The sword can also extend the Qi.
Traditional Tai Chi is martial art and each has an application. The offsprings can improve health in many ways and certainly better than being a couch potato.
You don't need speed to knockout the opponent while not even touch them at all.
Those MMA guys really are on the edge aren't they?I am not sure if you all saw the shogun jones fight but I was rooting for shogun and he seems like a good guy but that was literally sadening. After the fight I thought to myself most people will be in hell so I want to and you guys as well to pray for Maurico SHOGUN Rua's salvation and that he comes to repentence, PRAY for MMA Fighters in general and of course for those who are in need of a savior.
Yes. It is entirely possible.I first got into martial arts through Wado Ryu Karate Do. Both a professor at my university and a black belt (at least 4th or 5th degree, I think) from a few cities away. Got about to purple belt, fifth rank and then went into Tai Chi and did that for about 2 years, and I'd want to get more into it. I admittedly have difficulty in persistent practice, considering all I retain from Wado Ryu is basic fundamentals we practiced. The kata are all but gone. I'd be better off trying to do Tai Chi 24 style. The teacher is actually a former physics/engineering professor, but now he's probably semi retired at his age (60s, at least), but stands by Tai Chi as something that helped him when his job was getting him really stressed out and then he started practicing again.
I wonder if it's possible to incorporate both Tai Chi and Wado Ryu, even though they're practically opposites of each other, though Wado Ryu is soft in some sense, it's more hard in general karate strikes that incorporate jujutsu moves. Tai Chi, on the other hand, is, I believe, by its own admittance, a soft form of martial arts, so incorporation and syncretism of them would be tricky. Eclecticism, maybe, not syncretism

Good stuff. You've got a very interesting background.Ahhhh, NOW we're talking!!!
Started out in Kodenkan Jui-Jitsu in high school, made it up to brown belt (teaching rank just below black belt), then teacher moved away
Joined the Marines and went on a WestPac (Japan, China, Okinawa - where I was baptized! - Korea, etc...pretty much the Pacific Rim). Got to learn some Tiger Kung Fu, White Crane and Snake, little bit of Monkey Chuan Fa (interesting).
Came back stateside and got into some Paqua (what Jet Li's good character "Gabe" used in The One), and later into Aikido.
Now I teach self-defense techniques in MMA style from all the above, utilizing stop-hit blocks, joint dislocations, and Dim Muk points (NOT the nonsense you see in movies...the real deal based upon acupuncture meridian points).
I find that the self-discipline received from the MA's has greatly helped me in my christian walk, not to mention the exercise we get from a single workout!
Ah, martial arts. One of my favorite stuffs seen on TV especially when it comes down to Jet Li (Once Upon A Time In China) and Jackie Chan (Gangster) as well as Mark Dacascos (Crying Freeman), Matt Mullins (Kamen Rider Dragon Knight) and a lot more. Since I like it, I am planning to enroll in martial arts with a mastery of either Chinese or Japanese martial arts with punches, kicks, throws as well as swords/ sabers.
I had to lookup Kuai Shou on YouTube. It looks kinda like Wing Chun. Tell us some more about it.I have been fortunate enough to learn Kuai Shou from some very learned monks. Also, I hold the rank of Ustaz in Pencak Silat Harub. Been doing MA for around 28 years.
