  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a very important subject for a Christian, and not to be taken lightly.

SEEKING TO MARRY A CHRISTIAN
Sometimes we hear of one who plans to marry, and say that the object of their affection is a Christian, but when one inquires further it is learned that the "object" only said he or she is a Christian. That ought to at least raise a "red flag" that it really needs to be qualified; but then: is the one seeking to marry, the best judge of that?

If a professing Christian seeks to find a Christian spouse, that professor first needs to be sure his or her own belief is real and sound, and one is a “born again” Christian (see all of John 3 and John 14); and be sure the other is also truly saved. There are many followers after the Christian path who do not know the Lord Jesus as their Savior. They are just kind of religious and trying to conform to the Bible teachings and church doctrines, and have not the Holy Spirit.

We have all known many sad cases where one married a “professor” of Christianity, who was not a real possessor of Christ; and the result was a very hurtful life or at least a great disappointment later.

This brings us then to the need to understand salvation and the true Gospel message. One should talk to several faithful believers known as mature and sound Bible teachers; and one should seek their counsel about marriage and the gospel truth. Certainly Christian friends who know the person that one is interested in marrying, can speak about their knowledge and acquaintance.

This matter all speaks of a personal relationship with God’s beloved Son ---the Lord Jesus Christ. If anyone does not show devotion to Christ in their conversation, and is not a worshipper with reality in their walk, all their talk of a belief in God may fall short of truth. A simple question of how and when one became a Christian might provide a clue if they are truly IN Christ; but if a non-believer wants to marry a certain person, they might try to imitate a Christian, so one needs to be much in prayer and seeking all available resources.

Let us always pray for God’s leading and ask the Lord Jesus to keep us from error, and make it clear to us if one is “born again” by the indwelling Holy Spirit through receiving of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. – RLD, from biblecounsel.homestead.com

This is truly a critical issue. We all know of ones who have hastily married someone who said he/she believed in God, and found later that it wasn't sound faith, but just a notion or simply allowance of a Deity. A real "born again" believer must be VERY careful about choosing a spouse. One can find help at the Bible Counsel site.

Not to burst your bubble, but who are you to judge another believer's salvation? Do you see yourself as Christ, all knowing and all seeing, and therefore thinks that you can judge a person's faith based upon whom they marry?

I hate to break it to you bluntly, but what of the case of someone such as myself who has been married to a Christian woman only to find out that she does believe; however, her behavior for only God knows what reason becomes a problem serious problem to the marriage and ends up having the marriage resulting in a divorce?

Read Mathew, Mark, and Luke about judging others. Read also 1 Corinthians 7:12 - 13 about marriage between a believer and non-believer. I don't mean to come hard on you, but its statements like yours, et al that drive me nuts. Not to mention that your post comes off as a self promotion whatever you seems beneficial to you.

I would prefer two people who show a Christ like love for one another who share different faiths over two believers that aren't in a loving relationship. Facts of life. Indeed I do agree that it there is some merit to both individuals in a marriage to believe in Christ as their Lord and Savior; however, that does not guarantee that the marriage will last. Only sharing the same values, principles, and goals are the true markers of compatibility, for without that (even with love & respect) the marriage will only last for a while.
