Ukraine’s Foreign Minister reports in a 30 second video interview:
Mariupol ‘doesn’t exist anymore’ - Ukraine FM

Could this sort of thing be prevented, if people obeyed Christ’s teaching?

Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

What if they obeyed my teaching?

"Don't kill anyone" is my first commandment.
"Thou shalt not kill" is the fourth commandment in the ten commandments. That was written thousands of years ago, so I think God beat you to the punch ^_^

If people in the world obeyed Christ's teaching, or I should say if MORE people obeyed Christ's teaching there would be a lot less hurt in the world because more people would do things like:
1) Not kill, so war world be obsolete.
2) Pray, so God's influence would be more prevalent
3) Treat others the way they would want to be treated, so people would be kinder

The list goes on but if more people abided by Christ's teaching yes a lot of suffering would be avoidable.

I'm sure somebody came up with the idea that killing is bad before that time.

The First children of Adam and Eve (Adam and Eve were the first people created) Cain their son killed his brother Abel, and this was God's response to him:

Genesis 4:10 'The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”'

So your wrong and right at the same time.

Wrong that it was someone else that came up with idea that killing is wrong, since both the speaker behind the 10 commandments and the person speaking to Cain are God, but right that someone came up with the idea that killing is wrong before the 10 commandments since the rebuking of Cain by God happened to the first family in all of creation.

I don't think the problem is that nobody came up with the idea.

We've come up with a lot of good ideas, like "don't hold slaves" or "don't have intercourse with another person while holding a weapon against their head so they don't fight back".

When was the last time you ate meat?

"Thou shalt not kill" does not exist anywhere.

It is "Do not murder"

An enormous difference.

A disturbing part in all of this is how Orthodox Church leaders are supporting Putin in all of this.

This is the same as the Catholics helping Nazis escape to Argentina etc, and will be a dark mark on their history and credibility forever.

There was a law against murder as early as 2000 BC in Mesopotamia. They wrote their records on clay tablets and baked them to preserve their writings. These were found during archaeology expeditions.

No, it's thou shalt not kill. Period. Peace on earth starts with stopping the needless killing of animals and unborn babies.

The original Hebrew word is murder. What the translators changed it to in what ever version of the Bible that you read still doesn't change the original meaning.

Well, I must say I did not see you were a vegan, so it was not some kind of poke.

What you eat and do not eat is nothing to do with me.

My daughter is a vegan too, she just loves animals, it's how she ticks.

But it does not change what is written.

Murder is the taking of innocent life.

Killing is as per Talmud,
If someone comes to kill you,
you must rise up and kill them first.

However, if you do not accept the script then write your own,

it will make God chuckle,
"Hoho, look they are writing there own script."

But... it would be a truth whether or not your God commanded it. I believe that was his point.

The OP's question was
"Could this sort of thing be prevented, if people obeyed Christ’s teaching?"

So I was answering OP's question. the person you referenced just said to obey their own teaching, which was the same as Christ's teaching. That's like if someone said "should we listen to Newton's law of universal gravitation?" And I turned around and said "listen to my law of gravity" and then proceeded to copy Newton's law of universal gravitation. Wouldn't really make sense.

The teaching of avoiding murder or praciticing nonviolence predates Christ. The Buddha and the Mahavira both taught it.

Did you see where I posted God's disapproval of Cain, in the first family to exist in human history, for murdering his brother?
